Title: The Beautiful Scream

As they climbed up the mountainside and caught sight of the amusement park entrance and the shape of the Ferris wheel, Masuzu regained her energy.

“How about we go in and take a look?”

“Not now. Later, on the way down.” The ordinary student rejected her bluntly. “Hiking a mountain should be done in one breath. Otherwise, it’s easy to give up halfway.”

Masuzu wanted to argue, but seeing Yukino glance at her with a kind smile, she could only click her tongue. She squeezed her aching thigh and continued walking upward.

By midday, the sunlight grew increasingly intense. The cool mountain breeze had slightly died down, and at the same time, it carried away a bit of body heat. The mix of cold and heat felt very uncomfortable.

But the two stubborn, beautiful girls didn’t speak. Though they were panting and walking slowly, they still followed the back of the ordinary student, drawing closer and closer to the mountaintop.

“If you don’t come, I won’t forgive you... If you don’t save me, I’ll cut you up... If you don’t let me reach the summit, I’ll chop you into seventeen or eighteen pieces... Hurry and come save me—I’ll allow you to grope my chest...”

Yukino’s cheek twitched. She couldn’t help but retort, “What are you muttering? Don’t you know how to regulate your breathing? I can teach you.”

Masuzu pursed her lips. She had no time to maintain her well-behaved act. She rolled her eyes and replied, “Take care of yourself. Your face is so pale—you could faint anytime.”

“Relax, I can still hold on...”

Before she could finish, the ordinary student in front suddenly said, “That person...”

They both looked up the trail.

He wasn’t very tall, not very large, but his back gave off a strange sense of security. The boy casually chatted with the pink dango-haired girl beside him, stepping leisurely up the stairs dappled with light and shadow. The faint smile on his face was so relaxed and peaceful, as if he had merged with the entire forest.

Masuzu unconsciously widened her eyes. Her entire body revived like a tire freshly inflated. Just as she was about to pull out her phone, she glanced sideways, narrowed her eyes slightly, and said:

“...What’s with that relieved expression on your face, President?”

“Isn’t it natural to feel relieved when coincidentally meeting a club member in an unfamiliar hiking spot?”

Smoothing her hair, Yukino’s expression didn’t change. Her slightly cold gaze turned sideways. “And I’d like to advise you—don’t be too sensitive. Uncontrolled jealousy like this is very unpleasant... Miss Fake Girlfriend.”

“...Right. I was overacting.”

Closing her eyes, Masuzu took several deep breaths. After calming her slightly unstable thoughts from exhaustion, she finally pulled out her phone and called.

The trio ahead stopped. After Yuu pulled out his phone and spoke a few words, he turned and looked in their direction, slightly raising his eyebrows in surprise.

After hanging up, he and the pink dango-haired girl walked side by side, while the golden drill-twin-tailed girl waited above, resting briefly.

“Why didn’t you just call out instead of calling...?”

“Do I look like I have the energy to shout?”

Unconsciously, Masuzu gave in. She showed a bitter, helpless smile.

As Yuu approached, he also looked at the ordinary student in surprise: “(Name)-san is in a group with them? What a coincidence.”

“Yeah, I didn’t expect to meet here.” The ordinary student looked happy, but not overly enthusiastic. She remained perfectly composed upon meeting an acquaintance.

Yuu glanced at the two beautiful girls behind him, who looked like walking corpses. He couldn’t help but show a sympathetic expression.

“Thanks for your hard work. You’ve got to picnic with these two troublesome people.”

The ordinary student scratched her cheek, smiling bitterly, unsure what to say.

“What do you mean, troublesome?”

Like a kitten whose tail had been stepped on, Yukino instantly glared coldly at him. Her pale face flushed red with anger.

Masuzu cared about something else.

“You know Ordinary Girl?”

She paused. The ordinary student pointed at herself, blinking: “Ordinary Girl?”

“Don’t casually nickname people.” Yuu pulled a handkerchief from his pocket. Naturally, he wiped the sweat from Masuzu’s face. “When I went to the student council to deliver documents, (Name)-san was on duty to receive me. She helped me a lot back then.”

“Whatever, calling me Ordinary Girl is fine too.” She slumped her shoulders. Ordinary Girl gave in easily, smiling helplessly. “I was just doing the work I had to do. That’s far from being helpful. Tenkuji-kun, you’re exaggerating.”

“I see...” Masuzu looked back and forth between them. She nodded slightly, showing a sincere smile to Ordinary Girl. “Thank you for taking care of my boyfriend. If in the future you need anything from the student council, please let me know.”

“N-no, you two are exaggerating too much...”

Ordinary Girl quickly bowed in response. After a moment, she tilted her head, realizing:

(Is this a declaration of ownership? Even though I’m so ordinary?)

As if it were just a small matter, Masuzu quickly stopped paying attention to her. She shifted her gaze to Yuu’s face, so close. She gently tugged the hem of his shirt.

“Carry me.”

“Up the mountain?” Yuu paused.

“Never mind if it’s dangerous.”

“This is easier than arm-wrestling a bald, bespectacled man.”

Yuu turned and crouched down. The steps on this hiking trail were wide and had handrails. As long as one had strong physical strength, carrying someone wasn’t difficult.

“Climb on. Don’t say I’m harassing you if your butt touches me later.”

Masuzu couldn’t hold back a laugh. She whispered to herself, “You granted my wish—I wouldn’t mind letting you grope my chest either.”

“What?”

“Nothing.” Composing her expression, Masuzu calmly climbed onto his back. Her thighs squeezed his waist, her hands resting on his shoulders.

She seemed still unaccustomed. She didn’t press her whole body against him, her movements careful and cautious.

“I’m done... Kyaa!”

As she finished speaking, Yuu suddenly stood up. Her hands on his shoulders instantly gripped tightly. Something soft pressed against him. Her silver hair tickled his neck, mixed with her startled breath.

Her body temperature was very high, her sweat carried a strange scent. Her thigh under his palm was firm yet soft. Even with gym clothes separating them, the sensation was incredible.

“Your scream was so beautiful.” Yuu smiled mischievously, saying in a voice only she could hear.

Masuzu gritted her teeth. Her face reddened where he couldn’t see. She whispered angrily, “Be careful—I’ll drag you down the mountain with me. Dying together with your fake girlfriend on a mountain will make your name famous forever.”

“There’s no way it’d be that bad.”

“Wanna try?” Masuzu’s tone turned slightly dangerous.

“Don’t say silly things.” Yuu laughed. “Let’s go. I’ll carry you to the mountaintop to see the view.”

Masuzu exhaled. She released her hands from his shoulders, then wrapped her arms around his neck, gently laying her head on his chest.

The cool autumn wind blew. The sunlight still burned.

Masuzu looked up.

She didn’t know if it was because she was too tired, or because her viewpoint was slightly higher than usual.

“...So beautiful... this world.”

“Your scope is too broad. At least just call it this mountain.”

“Not your business, you idiot.”

Title: Breaking Someone’s Heart

[Ding!]
[Congratulations, Host, you’ve earned the reward: Burden (Expert Level).]

Peace and safety are merely illusions—because someone is carrying a heavy burden for you.

Amid the system notification, Yuu couldn’t help but sigh.

Hiking was already very easy for him. With this skill, even carrying Masuzu up and down the mountain would now be effortless.

Maybe he could try carrying two people at once?

If he activated his full strength—one on his neck, one on his waist, and two on his biceps—yes, it would be the Tenkuji Yuu brand rickshaw!

“Enough.”

Putting aside those strange thoughts, Yuu glanced sideways and noticed someone staring at him.

Not just Yuigahama—Yukino was also giving him a strange look, as if... they were watching a male dog mating right in front of them?

This kind of disgusted expression was honestly a bit hurtful.

Of course, compared to that, his fake girlfriend’s feelings were more important, so Yuu decided to pretend he didn’t see it and kept walking upward.

Yumiko, waiting up ahead, immediately ignored him. She impatiently called to Yuigahama still below: “Yui, hurry up! After reaching the summit, I still want to go down to check things out.”

“Ah, I’m coming now!” As if waking from a dream, Yuigahama pulled her gaze from Yuu’s back. She held Yukino’s arm, looking at her with concern. “Yukinon, are you okay? If you need to rest, I’ll stay with you here.”

“No need. Keep walking.” Yukino gently shook her head. She released her grip, pulled out a hair tie, and tied her long, straight black hair into a ponytail. After doing a few small jumps in place and taking a deep breath, she began hiking again.

Yuigahama and Ordinary Girl followed.

Yuu, walking ahead, turned to look back. He wanted to compliment Yukino on her beautiful ponytail—she could easily appear on a fashion magazine.

But considering that if he said it, someone on his back might strangle him with enough force to crush a neck, he turned back expressionlessly and continued walking steadily toward the summit.

“Who is she? Yui, do you know her?” Yumiko, now approaching Yukino, asked casually.

“Yeah, she’s my club friend, Yukinon!” Yuigahama smiled. She glanced at Yukino’s cold, disapproving expression and smiled even more happily. “Yukinon, she’s my classmate, Miura Yumiko... By the way, Yumiko, you know Natsukawa-san but not Yukinon?”

“I don’t know many people. No loss if I don’t know her.” Rolling her eyes, she gave Yukino a disrespectful look. Yumiko suddenly pulled a blue-and-white sports drink from her bag and handed it over as if it couldn’t be refused.

“Here. Drink this before hiking. Don’t drink straight from the bottle.”

“...”

Yukino stared at her in surprise. After hesitating briefly, she pursed her lips and shook her head.

“Hah? What’s that supposed to mean? If it weren’t for Yui...”

Yumiko raised an eyebrow. Mid-sentence, she saw Yukino’s pale, unwell face—but the serious light in her eyes never wavered. Slowly, she calmed down. She put the drink back in her bag, displeased.

“Fine, suit yourself! Just don’t faint while hiking.”

“...Thank you.” Yukino said quietly. She turned her gaze toward the summit, stepping forward firmly, straightening her back as if to prove something.

“Tch, she feels like such a pain.” Twirling the end of her hair at her chest, Yumiko sighed, looking at Yuigahama. “Tenkuji, Yukinon too... Yui, why are all your friends so weird?”

“Yukinon’s full name is Yukinoshita Yukino...” Yuigahama smiled bitterly. “And if that’s the case, Yumiko, aren’t you the weird one?”

“Ugh.” Yumiko choked. Clearly, she hadn’t considered that. “I-I meant your friends besides me! Isn’t Hina weird too? She likes men...”

Yuigahama grabbed her hand, not letting her continue. “Alright, alright~ We’ll fall behind. Let’s hurry and catch up.”

“What’s with that tone, like you’re comforting a child?! Don’t get too cocky!” Yumiko said angrily, eyes wide.

In short, the group of three expanded to six. Five women and one man proudly marched toward the summit.

Ordinary Girl: “Am I a bit excessive here?”

From the summit, the city streets and scenic areas looked like miniatures. Tiny black dots—like ants—moved across the ground. The noise of crowds faded away, leaving only the rustling between trees.

“Human beings are like trash.” 2x

At the highest point of Mosum Peak, two beautiful girls gazed down at the world below. They said it simultaneously. Their faces showed arrogance and unhidden sneers.

Hearing each other’s voices, they looked at each other and smiled—as if admiring one another.

“I don’t think you’re qualified to say that, Natsukawa-san, when you casually reached the summit by riding on someone.”

“Yukinoshita-san, you could barely stand. How about you lie on the ground and rest first, then talk about dignity when your legs aren’t shaking?”

They admired each other in sarcasm.

Yuu couldn’t help but look at Ordinary Girl with more sympathy—if they kept fighting like this all the way, the mental pressure on the ignored person must be immense.

Ordinary Girl smiled bitterly and said nothing. She seemed used to it and capable of handling both of them.

Though the summit was quiet, many students on picnic, tourists, and hikers walked around.

Before she became the center of attention, Masuzu stepped down from Yuu’s back. After stretching her arms and legs, she closed her eyes and enjoyed the cool mountain wind blowing past.

Her silver hair fluttered like stardust, transforming her into bright, translucent light under the sunlight.

“Hmm~ So comfortable. I can go down now.”

“Too fast.” Not even a minute after reaching the summit, this self-centered woman already wanted to leave. “Rest for ten minutes. Besides you and me, everyone else is tired.”

Masuzu looked at Yuu. “You’re not tired? You’re not even sweating... Could you be a physical-type Stand user?”

“Actually, it was my Stand that carried you. I didn’t move at all.”

Masuzu narrowed her eyes, smiling. “So my butt was groped by the Stand too?”

Several glances turned their way, seemingly making the air colder.

“No, neither I nor my Stand groped your butt.” Yuu calmly defended himself. He walked to the nearby gazebo and sat. Taking a water bottle from his bag, he took a small sip.

“Will you join us again? We can take the amusement park monorail down. After that, it’ll be easy to go to the shopping street or scenic area.”

“We’ve decided our next destination.” Sitting far from him, Yukino answered flatly while drinking water. “If you want to join, it’s fine to act together.”

“Your attitude is so condescending...” Yuu turned to Masuzu leaning on his shoulder. “Where are you going?”

“To the cat café. Yukinoshita-san’s favorite place.” Masuzu answered casually. Her long lashes slightly trembled, her soft lips curving slightly—she looked extremely comfortable.

Yukino’s eyebrow twitched slightly. She didn’t defend herself, only silently drinking water.

Yuu understood. “Like attracts like... I can see it.”

“What do you mean?” No longer indifferent, Yukino glared at him. Her pale face had a different blush—not from exercise—but she didn’t seem to hold much hostility.

It was very cute.

Yuu smiled. Just as he was about to start his usual conversation, several people who had gone to take photos at the railing returned to the gazebo. Yuigahama in front raised her phone high, shouting joyfully.

“Everyone, let’s take a group photo~”

Behind her were Yumiko and Ordinary Girl. They seemed already close, chatting in a peaceful atmosphere.

“I’m not joining.” As soon as Yukino finished speaking, Yuigahama pulled her arm and made her stand, almost making her drop the water bottle in her hand. “It’s a rare chance for a picnic—how can you say you won’t join? Right now, and also during the field trip later, we must make beautiful memories!”

Yukino looked annoyed, but gave in as if used to it. “I said, don’t cling like that...”

Masuzu glanced at them. She snorted, speaking in a low voice. “I don’t want to do meaningless things like that. What’s the point of making memories? In the end, we’ll part ways anyway.”

Gray clouds drifted from afar. They slowly covered part of the blue sky. Clear weather turned cloudy.

Only Yuu could hear her voice, so only he reacted.

“Yeah, in the end, we’ll part ways. No matter how deep the memories we make.” Yuu rose from the stone bench. Stretching his body, he spoke casually. “But because of that, we should enjoy it before we part.”

Turning and extending his hand toward her, he pointed to the people already searching for a photo spot. “As long as we don’t forget, the experiences we’ve had will never be meaningless. You must have some too—memories that make you smile when you think of them.”

Masuzu stared blankly, then unconsciously turned her face away, as if her eyes were stung by sunlight behind the clouds.

“...Well, maybe. Though I live poorly now, I was very happy as a child.”

She held his hand in her lap. Yuu also pulled her up. Smiling, he said, “Whether it’s meaningful or not—that’s a decision for our future selves. For now, just do what you want and what you like.”

“If you just don’t like being in photos, I won’t force you—how about being the photographer? You can take a picture of us five.”

He tucked her silver hair behind her ear. Masuzu lowered her head and sighed. Her tone showed helplessness. “Only you could come up with such an outrageous idea... As for photos, I don’t hate them, but I don’t like them either.”

“Of course, nude photos are excluded. If you want to see them, feel free to come to my room and check them out yourself.”

“Oh oh, next time.” Saying it indifferently, Yuu released her hand. He patted her slender, delicate back.

“Let’s go. Take a photo you can keep in your breast pocket. One day, when you’re on a plane, you can look at it and feel nostalgic.”

“That’s too disadvantageous. Maybe half the people in the photo will die in battle.”

Saying that, Masuzu obediently followed him toward the others who had already left the gazebo. She asked casually, “We’ll part ways in the end too.”

“Of course. After all, we’re fake lovers.”

Masuzu said softly, “Then... are you enjoying it now?”

“Hmm...” Yuu thought briefly. Pretending not to see the hidden doubt, he spoke uncertainly. “I guess so? After all, with you, it’s quite enjoyable.”

“...Exactly. You’ve unconsciously fallen in love with me.” Masuzu shook her head regretfully, but her expression unconsciously relaxed.

“I remind you—I hate love the most. If you seriously try to pursue me, prepare to be kicked by me.”

“Again? How many times will you emphasize that?” Yuu said helplessly.

Masuzu showed a cold smile. Her eyes held no emotion. “I’ll emphasize it over and over. Continuing this hatred is the meaning of my existence.”

“Chuunibyou syndrome?”

“Very rude. I’m serious. Everyone has beliefs they want to uphold.”

“I understand.” Before stepping out of the gazebo, Yuu stopped. He looked at Masuzu seriously.

“Love for you as a person is different from love for Masuzu—so don’t worry. I don’t want to date you, and I won’t seriously pursue you.”

Masuzu nodded, satisfied. “Good. You know your limits well.”

“So...”

“Hmm?” Yuu’s expression suddenly turned serious. Masuzu froze.

Then, as if he wouldn’t let her escape, Yuu locked eyes with her. Each word fell heavily into the air.

“One day, I’ll like another girl. I’ll seriously pursue her, date her—the kind of love you hate the most.”

“If everything goes smoothly, I’ll marry and have children. I’ll do my best not to leave her. I’ll rack my brain to give her happiness—whether it’s fighting a bald, bespectacled man or carrying her up a mountain, those are things I’ll only do for her.”

“At that time, no matter if people still come confessing to you or not, I’ll end your mission and chase my own happiness... For our fake lover relationship, that will be the real farewell. The lie will truly end here.”

His voice fell with a hint of loneliness, along with blades of grass rolling down the slope, disappearing into the dark, gloomy forest.

“...”

Masuzu didn’t speak. She just stood like a stone statue. Her eyes unfocused, staring blankly at him—like she’d lost her mind.

Heavy, sorrowful background music played. Yuu quickly ordered the system to stop. The atmosphere around them returned to silence. The air seemed to stop flowing.

Masuzu was so still, even her breath couldn’t be heard.

Her lips trembled slightly. But rather than shock or sadness, she showed confusion and contradiction—like a lost child staring wide-eyed at a strange world, waiting in loneliness for someone to take her home.

Yuu also fell silent for several seconds. Getting no answer, he smiled as if nothing happened. He pinched her cold cheek.

“Well, I thought you were prepared... No, ‘prepared’ isn’t quite right. You shouldn’t care too much. After all, you even said you’d help me find a girlfriend after the mission ended. On the contrary, I’m the one overemphasizing this—that’s my fault.”

After finishing, he took a deep breath. Stepping into the sunlight breaking through the clouds, he left her alone in the gazebo’s shadow, letting the mountain wind tousle the girl’s silver hair.

“For me, until this mission ends, this time is worth remembering.”

“So, let’s take a photo. Masuzu.”

Shortly after, the camera flash lit up.

Clouds thickened. Moisture filled the air. The rustling in the forest grew louder, as if complaining.

Rain was about to fall.

Title: Yukino: Meow~

A storm was coming. Yet on this mountain, although the weather was slightly overcast, it felt calmer than before.

Perhaps this was the calm before the storm?

Under the watchful trees around them, the six people took the monorail back down to the flatlands. After greeting Hiratsuka and confirming no groups had strayed, they all walked toward the shopping street. They planned to find a place for lunch, then decide on their afternoon schedule.

“Then, straight to the Cat Café!”

Having recovered from the exhaustion of hiking, Yukino—rested and reborn—spoke firmly: “I’ve done my research. This is a combined pet café. Though it’s a bit pricey, the food inside is highly rated. Tasty and generous portions.”

Her gaze was clear and sharp. She looked at each person in turn, unflinching, her eyes sparkling with strong determination.

She was so confident that if anyone spoke, she could counter with ten arguments.

“If anyone has financial concerns, no need to force it. But if there are no issues and no other suggestions, I hope you’ll consider my opinion.”

“To the Cat Café, huh...”

Though her tone was a bit forceful, in terms of group communication, Yukino’s performance was outstanding. Nothing was rude.

After exchanging glances, Yuigahama and Ordinary Girl said they had no problem. Yumiko only muttered, “You really do love cats, don’t you...”

She didn’t object either.

Only Yuu raised his hand and asked like a child: “I have an opinion! President, I’m allergic to cats—what about that?”

“No ‘what about that.’ Since you’re used to lying, your opinion will be completely ignored and only considered if absolutely necessary.”

Yukino replied coldly. She didn’t even bother glancing at him, immediately turning to Masuzu, who hadn’t spoken.

“Natsukawa-san, you’re fine with it.”

“...Fine. You decide.”

“Good.” Frowning slightly, Yukino asked no further. She led the group toward the Cat Café marked on the map.

Just past noon, when the six arrived at the Cat Café, eight or nine people were already queuing outside. They looked like two groups of tourists. The staff said seats would be available in ten to twenty minutes.

“Is time not on my side...”

Looking into the shop, where lively or aloof cats roamed, Yukino reluctantly bit her lip.

Her pale fist clenched tightly. Her nails nearly pierced her palm from regret. She kept muttering, “Though it’s natural for cats to be popular, they shouldn’t be this popular...”

If she were alone, she wouldn’t mind waiting an hour. After all, she wasn’t particularly interested in other places. But now she had become the leader of this group (in her mind), she had to consider the schedule. Yukino could only reluctantly give up. She couldn’t waste others’ time by making them wait.

“Fine, let’s find another restaurant.” She sighed.

She glanced at the window. Tourists happily played with the cats. The furry creatures walked with grace and arrogance. Yukino, with strong determination—as if she’d snap their necks—turned her slightly envious gaze away and turned back with a blank expression.

“Ten to twenty minutes... maybe it’s not a problem to wait?”

“...Yuigahama-san?”

But just as Yukino was about to leave, Yuigahama suddenly spoke. She asked the others: “Yumiko...”

“This is my first time at a place like this. I’m quite interested.” Yumiko waved her hand, signaling her to say no more. She also glanced at Yukino. “But on the contrary, later I want to go somewhere else. I hope no one says they’re uninterested and leaves on their own.”

“...Of course not.” Yukino snapped out of her surprise. Her tone was very serious. “Mutual respect is the basis of teamwork. Though I usually act alone, I still understand basic common sense.”

Rarely, in front of cats, her attitude was more active and gentle than usual.

Not just Yuigahama—Yumiko blinked in surprise too. Then she smirked, saying playfully: “You seem so hard to get along with, but actually you’re quite nice? I’ve changed my mind about you.”

“Is that so? Thank you for the compliment.” Yukino smiled back. She gently brushed her hair from her shoulder. “But if I’m not interested, I’ll plainly say I’m not. From my observations, our tastes are very different. I hope you won’t mind my opinions later.”

“How dare you say that... Fine, just wait! I’ll definitely make you interested in the things I like, Yukinoshita!”

As if accepting a challenge, Yumiko pointed at Yukino. She lifted her head and chest, smiling, igniting her own passion.

As for Ordinary Girl, she still had no opinion.

“Only Natsukawa-san left... Is everyone in agreement?” After getting a response from her expression, Yukino silently exhaled in relief. A small, sweet smile appeared at the corner of her lips. Her calm, clear voice clearly sounded happy.

“Then, please queue up. But before entering, I suggest you carefully read the entry instructions. So you don’t accidentally break the shop’s rules later... After all, we must be careful when interacting with cats.”

Yuu, already used to having his opinions ignored, said casually: “No problem. I have cats at home too. They’re obedient, cute, and good at guarding the house. I don’t see anything to worry about.”

“...”

Yukino’s shoulders clearly trembled. Then, she seemed to suppress the urge to ask further. She turned her face unnaturally, snorting in a stiff, cold tone:

“This is outside, not your home. Don’t be too free.”

“Alright, President~” Yuu drawled lazily. He seemed indifferent, but was actually continuously observing Masuzu.

After they all read the instructions on the small board outside the shop, they pulled out their phones and happily discussed the photos they took at the summit.

Besides Yuu and Masuzu, Yukino was also drawn into the group by Yuigahama. Though not very enthusiastic, she wasn’t bored either.

“This photo’s a bit dark—delete it.”

“You took way too many...”

“Do you have Instagram? Let’s follow each other, then we can upload the photos.”

“Yuu, Yukinon, and Natsukawa-san don’t have it. The three of us can follow each other and tag one another.”

“How about we make a group? I’ll upload all the photos I just took. I took a lot when I was excited.”

“Ah, great idea!”

On Yumiko’s suggestion, all six exchanged LINE Ids. Yumiko started and created a small group for communication.

Before notifications rang nonstop, they silenced their alerts. Then, they began viewing the photos continuously updated in the group album to pass the time while queuing.

Yuu also browsed. He wasn’t sure if these photos would still exist after a world line reset—photos he took with Haruno had completely vanished, making him feel slightly regretful when he thought about it.

Why weren’t the system’s stored dark histories the ones deleted?

Back to the main topic.

This time, others were involved. Even if his relationship with Masuzu disappeared, as long as he was still in the same group with Yukino on picnic day, the fact that the two groups met and took photos at the summit wouldn’t change much. At most, their expressions and positions would differ.

Besides, he didn’t take any solo photos with Masuzu. In these group photos, nothing showed how close they were—such distance, not even lovers, people wouldn’t believe they were ordinary friends.

Yuu shifted his gaze from Masuzu on the screen to the real one.

Masuzu leaned against the wall. Her expression was the same as in the photo, with little spirit in her eyes. She seemed to have suddenly lost her soul, or like she hadn’t woken up yet. Her focus wasn’t on her phone at all. She just flipped through the photos like a robot.

“Was what I said earlier really that crushing?”

Yuu was slightly shocked. He also pondered if he’d gone too far.

But he didn’t feel he’d done anything wrong.

Whether it was telling the truth, forcing her to face reality this way, or giving her a chance to properly sort her feelings—Yuu never forgot that the main reason he became their boyfriend was to fill the emptiness in their hearts, make them smile, and let them leave this world line, not to have fun with beautiful girls and drown in love.

While enjoying the feeling of love, he also had to ensure all the time he spent had meaning.

If emptiness was always filled with lies, his mission would never end. And Masuzu would never grow into a better, stronger woman like Haruno and Asuna.

His relationship with her, good or bad, was time to move to the next stage.

“Masuzu, there’s a menu to look at. Want to see?” Yuu spoke to her as if nothing had happened.

After a few seconds of silence, Masuzu lifted her head. Her focus returned.

After glancing at him, she quickly hid her gaze behind her phone. “No need. I’ll just order spaghetti.”

“Right, you said you don’t like eating, only eating nutritionless jelly every day... Then, I’ll order tomato bolognese spaghetti for you. Want a cup of Apa tea too?”

Unbothered by his cold tone, Yuu shrugged. He lazily flipped through the menu.

But he didn’t know if it was just his imagination—after he finished speaking, from the corner of his eye, Masuzu’s expression seemed slightly relaxed, gradually returning to her normal temperature.

Though she didn’t respond enthusiastically like usual, JOJO jokes were indeed very effective on JOJO-type girls like Masuzu.

For some reason, Yuu himself felt relieved.

◆━⊰✧⊱━◆

They didn’t have to wait long. About ten minutes later, a waitress came and led them inside.

First, they washed their hands. Then, she reiterated several rules—like no picking up cats, no flash photography, and so on. After confirming everything was fine, she led them to a round table and let them choose their seats.

The seating arrangement was as follows:

Yuu, Yui, Yumiko.

Masuzu, Yukino, Ordinary Girl.

Each group sat on one side. No one objected.

After the waitress took their orders and left, Yukino could no longer contain the joy in her heart. Pulling out her phone and turning on camera mode, she called to a calico cat slowly walking past the table:

“Meow~”

The cat heard the sound. It glanced at her, then walked toward her, lazily and proudly flicking its tail.

Then, as if giving her a reward, it jumped onto Yukino’s lap. It sat down and yawned proudly.

“What—does it really come this spontaneously?”

Yukino’s eyes widened, and she stayed silent for a long time. Then, two faint blushes slowly appeared on her pale face. After carefully taking a photo of the cat, she put her phone down. Her soft hands gently stroked the cat’s back and neck, nervously observing its reactions.

She looked like a mother caring for a newborn baby, her face filled with happiness, satisfaction, and maternal light.

“Meow~”

Everyone who saw this scene and heard this sound felt as if healed by the most beautiful thing in the world.

Noticing Yuigahama raising her phone, as if wanting to take a photo of the scene in front of her, Yukino quickly snapped back to reality. Covering the upper half of her face with her arm, she scolded in a soft, embarrassed voice:

“Yuigahama-san, I don’t allow secret photos!”

“Ah, sorry... Hehehe~ It’s just that current Yukinon is so cute, I couldn’t help wanting to press the button!”

Yuigahama laughed awkwardly, quickly putting her phone away.

Though slightly regretful, seeing Yukino clearly uncomfortable yet trying to restrain her reactions so as not to disturb the little cat, Yuigahama’s heart filled with a strange warmth. She felt she could eat three bowls of rice just from this scene.

Regarding this, not just Ordinary Girl, even Yumiko nodded in agreement.

“If you’re so bored, go call another cat to pet.”

Yukino sighed wearily. She was too lazy to pay attention to this unserious group. She tried to focus on the noble task of petting the cat.

But she forgot—one person in front of her was the most unserious of all.

“I didn’t take a photo, but I recorded it... Starting from your ‘meow’ sound.”

Yuu shook his phone, smiling innocently.

“No way?” She slightly raised an eyebrow. Yukino looked at him suspiciously, not losing her basic calm and rationality. “Video recordings have a shutter sound too. And again, how could I let you point your phone camera at me right in front of me?”

“Because you were too focused on the cat?” Yuu opened the video and showed it to her. “Look. Though only a few seconds, it could already become a treasure for some people.”

Needless to say, “some people” here clearly included Haruno.

In the video, Yukino slightly shrank her shoulders, bit her lip, and called the calico cat with a soft “meow” sound. It was the personification of the word cute.

Yukino froze in place. The shock seemed too great—she forgot how to react. Only her face gradually changed, but the blush on her ears never faded.

At this moment, Yuigahama gently tugged his sleeve. She giggled and whispered, “Yuu, send me a copy later...”

“How about just posting it in the group?” Yumiko, with sharp hearing, suggested. Ordinary Girl agreed too.

“That...” Yuu hadn’t answered. He swiftly pulled his hand back, successfully protecting his phone from her small, soft, white hand.

“Yukinoshita-san, robbery isn’t something you’d do.”

“Delete the vi-de-o!”

To prevent the cat, which had finally climbed onto her lap, from running away, Yukino tried to keep her voice low. Her entire face turned red. She gritted her teeth and glared at him.

“Eh? It’d be a shame to delete it. I recorded it with great effort. It’s not an embarrassing scene either.”

Though he used the supernatural Existence Adjustment ability, this video was truly recorded by Yuu with his skill. How could it be deleted so easily?

“Calm down, it won’t spread. If a seventh person besides us sees this video, I’ll become Miss Yukinoshita’s dog. I’ll become your Chainsaw Man.”

“I don’t understand what you’re saying. Anyway, delete it quickly.”

The cat on her lap suddenly jumped. It left Yukino’s lap. She sighed “ah” regretfully. Then, she turned her freezing gaze. She stared at him coldly and angrily.

Clearing his throat twice, Yuu put his phone in his pocket. He spoke with a serious expression: “I obtained permission before recording.”

“Who gave you permission?” Killing intent flashed in Yukino’s eyes.

“Masuzu.”

“Natsukawa-san?” Yukino glanced at the silent Masuzu. There wasn’t a hint of doubt on her face. She kept staring at Yuu with a cold smile. “Bad lies are enough. If you don’t delete that video...”

“True, I saw him secretly recording you, and I didn’t stop him.”

Masuzu suddenly spoke, cutting her off. She said with a slightly regretful tone: “If that counts as silent permission, then I and he are accomplices. Sorry, Yukinoshita-san.”

Yukino stared at her for several seconds. Finally, she withdrew her cold gaze.

“...Anyway, just delete the video.”

Masuzu looked at Yuu.

Shrugging, Yuu deleted the video in front of Yukino. Only then did this small commotion end.

As for recovering the file at home, Yuu didn’t even consider it—if he truly wanted to keep this video, he wouldn’t have shown it in the first place.

“I need to use the restroom.”

The food hadn’t arrived. Masuzu suddenly stood up and walked toward the toilets.

Not long after she left, Yuigahama also rose from her seat.

“I need to go to the restroom too.”

Title: It Feels Like a Lie

White water droplets splashed onto the porcelain sink.

After rinsing off the foam, snow-white hands shook off the remaining drops and turned off the faucet.

The mirror reflected the beautiful face of a silver-haired girl like a fairy, and the inexplicable burden she carried.

“This feeling... it’s just like when you tell employees at a company that’s clearly going bankrupt: ‘We’re actually going under, and we won’t be able to pay your salaries anymore.’”

Masuzu murmured to herself. Her cold fingers touched her cheek, leaving water droplets like tears.

“I knew it would end like this. I’ve stayed at this company just to relax. But when someone actually says it out loud, my feelings still get a little mixed up...”

Whether real or fake, things related to love would eventually fade away—she’d understood this since childhood, and she deeply hated it.

This was the reason. Nothing else.

After unilaterally explaining her feelings, Masuzu looked into the mirror, ensuring her expression remained steady. She returned to her usual calm and elegance, then turned to leave the restroom.

But she immediately came face to face with Yuigahama, who had come from the opposite direction.

Both fell silent. Masuzu reacted faster, smiling and speaking first:

“Yo, Dango Girl—did you come to the restroom, or are you being controlled by Close-up to attack me?”

“Part 5!” Yuigahama reflexively answered. Then she remembered what she wanted to say, unconsciously touching the dango on her head. “I’m not being controlled by a Stand! Of course I came to the restroom, but I also wanted to take this chance to talk to Natsukawa-san... Eh, what’s wrong with you?”

Yet Masuzu ignored her surprised expression.

“Why...?”

Her sapphire-blue eyes widened. She stared at Yuigahama in shock, as if she’d just heard Nobita tell Gian he’d join him. She unconsciously took a step back.

“Why are you so JOJO?”

“So JOJO? Ah, do you mean you get the JOJO jokes?” Yuigahama realized. She laughed awkwardly, embarrassed. “Didn’t I say earlier? I’ll watch it when I get home—JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.”

“Even though it’s just to have common topics with you all, the volume is too much. Though the content is fascinating, I can’t finish it quickly or catch up. So I asked Hina—my friend—to tell me the famous scenes and commonly used jokes. I plan to watch the specific plots later.”

As if thinking of someone odd, Yuigahama smiled bitterly. “I especially remember the Stand Close-up because my friend specifically recommended that pairing. The rest, I haven’t even finished reading Volume 1.”

“...Close-up and Impact, Tiziano and Squalo.” She took a stance as if facing a great enemy. Masuzu tensed her voice, speaking like she was revealing a password: “The only same-sex couple portrayed positively in JOJO, known as the Venice Pair... Is your friend a fujoshi?”

“Seems so?”

Unsure of the definition of fujoshi, Yuigahama answered uncertainly—but if that person were here, they’d probably proudly admit it, then enthusiastically promote the pairing.

“Hoo... So that’s it.”

Masuzu looked at her several times. Her sudden sense of psychological defense being breached slowly eased. She reached out, brushing her smooth, straight silver hair aside. Her aura of calm returned.

“Though you’re my rival, and you’re someone overly focused on love, your initiative to approach JOJO for the person you love makes me have to show you JOJO-level respect.”

“Eh? You’re respecting the JOJO part?” Yuigahama gave a strange smile, not at all pleased with the compliment.

“What else? Do you want me to say, ‘Aah, so touching, you’ve changed for love~’?”

She raised and then lowered her tone. Masuzu shrugged. After confirming no one else could hear them, she openly revealed her feelings.

“Don’t joke. If the JOJO element weren’t there, I’d spit at you with all my strength—you, Dango Girl, chasing after someone else’s boyfriend.”

“I’m not chasing him! We’re just acting like good friends now!” Her eyebrow twitched slightly. Yuigahama puffed one cheek. She said dissatisfiedly, “And I’ve said it countless times—please be self-aware as a fake girlfriend, okay? What’s with that possessive attitude...”

“Sorry, I am a possessive person.” Not wanting to dwell too long on this issue, Masuzu chose to change the subject. “What did you want to talk to me about privately? If it’s a declaration of war, I suggest saying it in front of others—it’d be more effective.”

“I don’t want to do that.” Yuigahama shook her head. She looked at her honestly. “I just saw Natsukawa-san’s expression looking a bit off. I wanted to ask if you weren’t feeling well... I feel you, like Yukinon, are the type who holds uncomfortable feelings inside and won’t say them.”

“What? You’re worrying about your rival?” Masuzu couldn’t help raising an eyebrow. She crossed her arms, her tone unconsciously becoming slightly sharp. “Or do you not consider me a rival at all, and you’re just waiting for this mission to end to replace me—you came to talk to me with the mindset that pitying me doesn’t matter?”

“...Ahaha, is that what you think?”

After a brief silence, Yuigahama let out a light sigh. A slightly sad, helpless smile appeared on her face.

“Even if Natsukawa-san sees me as a rival, I’ve never seen you as an enemy... It’s not that I look down on you, but I don’t want to fight over Yuu like a war.”

“Hmph, a truce agreement?”

Masuzu frowned. But under her honest gaze, she unconsciously bit her lip. Even her sharp tone softened slightly.

“What good would it do if I defeated you? If Yuu doesn’t like me, he’ll still reject my confession... If Yuu likes you, he won’t date me just because I do something. The place we should fight isn’t against each other. That’s what I think.”

“So, me caring about Natsukawa-san—is it purely because... I just like meddling?”

Yuigahama scratched her cheek. “Ahaha, when we took the photo on the mountain, I wondered what happened between you and Yuu. After that, from your attitude, I became even more certain...”

“Look, only we know about the fake relationship. Yuu is involved. Yukino isn’t good at actively caring for others. The only one who can listen to Natsukawa-san’s heart is me—the rival you see.”

Having made her conclusion, Yuigahama raised one finger. She lifted her head and chest, speaking as if it were natural: “So, if there’s something you’re bottling up, or a problem you can’t solve, just tell me! Even if I can’t give you a good answer, at least saying it will make you feel better.”

“...Hah?”

No longer overacting, Masuzu stared at the dango-haired girl in front of her with a look of surprise, unable to comprehend.

Herself, who loved lies the most, didn’t feel a single trace of dishonesty from her—though she hadn’t literally licked her to verify, somehow, Masuzu still couldn’t deny the sincerity and kindness in her words.

“...You—what are you, a fossil of a good person extinct since ancient times? Aren’t you stupid? Are you an idiot?”

“I’m not a dinosaur! And your words are too exaggerated!”

After snapping back angrily, Yuigahama burst into laughter. She proudly placed her hands on her hips. “I’m not doing this just for you! Getting information only the two of you know, and learning more about Yuu—that’s the greatest reward for me!”

Masuzu’s lips whitened. She lowered her head in silence.

There was genuine care, and also a slight cunning only a girl could possess—

And someone like this shone hundreds of times brighter than her, always lying.

It was a charm a fake could never possess. This fake version of herself could only feel ashamed before the real thing. Even a little kindness felt blinding.

She couldn’t approach, and she didn’t want to—yet she still didn’t want to give up so easily.

“Sorry, there’s nothing I can say to you.”

After a brief silence, Masuzu spoke in a voice that sounded hoarse and low. “You’re Yuu’s friend, not mine... Even if you’re just a fake rival, I’m not that stupid to share my issues with you.”

“...I see.”

Pretending not to hear the voice filled with disappointment and sighing, Masuzu clenched her hands at her sides. She walked past her and out of the restroom.

“Me and him are fine, thanks for your concern... Well then, enjoy your meal.”

“...Wait, at least say ‘enjoy your toilet time’!”

(I’m not a friendless kid who brings food to the toilet to eat!)

Left alone in the restroom, Yuigahama watched the silver-haired girl’s retreating back. She touched the dango on her head and murmured, “Such an awkward person—maybe only Yuu understands what she’s thinking...”

◆━⊰✧⊱━◆

Putting down his phone, Yuu looked toward Masuzu as she returned to her seat.

When their eyes met, Masuzu winked mischievously. She said with a bright smile, “What? Do you have a hobby of staring at girls who just came out of the restroom? Are you planning to sniff the scent too?”

Yuu hadn’t spoken yet. Two disgusted glances turned toward him—Yukino and Yumiko, their prejudice against him seemingly deepening.

As for Ordinary Girl, perhaps because she’d seen his cool side at work, or maybe she understood that Masuzu was just the type who didn’t speak normally, she only giggled softly beside them, watching from the side with little presence.

“...I just hope you remembered to wash your hands. Toilet habits in Japan and Sweden should be the same.”

Yuu was already used to situations like this. He rolled his eyes and didn’t intend to make a fuss.

“You worry too much. I lived in Japan until I was seven—I wouldn’t be that stupid.” He said casually. Masuzu pulled out her chair and sat. The waitress happened to bring the first dish—her bolognese spaghetti.

She frowned at the plate. Then she looked at Yuu with a pitiful expression.

“Sweetie, I can’t finish it~”

It was so cheap that Yuu couldn’t help rubbing his arm. Even Yukino showed a slightly uncomfortable expression.

“...I’ll help you finish it.” Yuu replied, holding his forehead.

“Wah~ Yuu’s the best, so kind~” Clapping cheerfully, Masuzu cheered in an extremely fake tone.

Then she lowered her head. Her eyes hidden under her bangs’ shadow, she smiled without laughter in her eyes: “I can feel it—your already-habitual attitude. Has another girl ever said this to you? How many girls’ leftover plates have you eaten?”

“...”

Yuu stared at her wordlessly.

(Is this girl’s sixth sense ranked A? Why is her intuition so accurate in things like this?)

Thanks to someone, he was indeed used to helping girls finish food they couldn’t eat, didn’t like, or found too spicy—his two statuses, Demon King of Eating and Fast Digestion, truly turned him into a human trash can. As long as it was edible, he had no problem eating any amount.

But since it was something he couldn’t say, Yuu, of course, had no intention of admitting it. He simply brushed it off with an unchanged expression:

“I have a little sister at home. I just often help her eat food she doesn’t like.”

“Really?”

She asked suspiciously. The next second, Masuzu took his hand resting on the table. She licked his index finger with her warm, soft tongue, then carefully tasted it.

Then, she showed a sly, alluring smile. She said with deep meaning: “It feels like a lie.”

Yuu stared at her wordlessly. “...Are you a specialized version of Bucciarati?”

Masuzu’s eyes widened. She leaned back, blushing. She said shyly, “Do you want me to lick your cheek? I won’t! Even if it’s me, doing something like that in public is still a bit embarrassing.”

She hadn’t even finished speaking. Glances that looked like they were seeing a pervert returned toward her.

(My reputation is ruined... Whatever, I never had a good one anyway.)

Life was tough. Yuu sighed.

He let Masuzu laugh hysterically there. Yuu pulled his hand back and wiped it with a tissue.

He didn’t know if it was just his imagination, but he felt she was slightly reluctant, as if she still wanted to lick him again, unconsciously swallowing saliva—Yuu pretended not to see. He asked helplessly:

“So, are you feeling better now?”

The unexpected question made Masuzu fall silent. She quickly returned to her perfect expression. She smiled and said, “Ah, what are you talking about? When was my mood ever bad?”

“It’s fine if you don’t want to admit it. At least now, I’ll be by your side.” He said in a voice only she could hear. Yuu pointed to her plate. “Eat. If you don’t want to eat, I’ll buy you jelly later. Weider in brand.”

“...”

Masuzu fell silent. After a while, she picked up her fork. She shook her head without a smile.

“I can eat. Thanks for your concern.”

Title: The Importance of Before and After

Shortly after, Yuigahama finished at the restroom and returned to her seat.

She glanced at Yuu and Masuzu. She didn’t say anything. After pulling out her chair and sitting down, she enthusiastically suggested:

“It seems boring to just eat. How about we play a game?”

“There are cats here, and you still feel bored?”

While petting a British Shorthair cat that had approached her feet, Yukino stared at her with an incredulous look. Sighing, she said, “Yuigahama-san, this is a cat café, not a game café or a meeting room.”

“Hm, true enough.”

After being called out like that, the others also seemed uninterested. Yuigahama could only abandon her idea.

She had actually wanted to play a game to improve everyone’s relationships and liven up the atmosphere...

But now, it seemed everyone was already fairly comfortable—except for Masuzu, who remained a bit awkward.

Yuigahama, quietly observing, breathed a sigh of relief.

Accompanied by soothing background music, harmless cats wandered around. Their cute appearances calmed people’s nerves. Occasionally, they proudly approached, flicking their tails, making people unconsciously smile in relaxation.

Only Masuzu remained awkward.

No cat wanted to approach her. They avoided or ignored her, creating a cat-free vacuum zone around her.

“Hehe, maybe I should call and have them send a pack of dogs to play with them.”

Masuzu smiled darkly. Her entire body radiated an aura that made the surrounding cats retreat even further.

Though the cats, painstakingly gathered, were frightened, Yukino couldn’t blame anything. She could only sigh sympathetically.

“No need to pity me. I just don’t like small animals... Unless it can control sand and likes chewing gum.”

Masuzu said indifferently, returning her focus to the spaghetti in front of her.

Yet, Yuu sensed a hint of jealousy and loss from her. Clearly, being avoided by cats had hurt her.

The girl looked so strong, but in truth, she was easily wounded.

◆━⊰✧⊱━◆

After eating, a satisfied Yukino led everyone out of the Cat Café. They prepared to head to the next location.

The mountaintop and amusement park had already been visited. Remaining were the shopping street and scenic area. There was also a flower field still blooming in autumn nearby. It was impossible to visit everything before leaving, so they had to choose.

In the end, considering the overcast sky and the likelihood of heavy rain, everyone decided to spend the remaining time at the covered shopping street rather than do what they “should” do during a picnic at the scenic area. Yukino had some complaints, but she’d promised Yumiko earlier, so she couldn’t take her words back.

“Even if the forecast says no rain, you should still prepare for rain,” Yukino said in a lecturing tone, since they’d be acting together. “Isn’t it common sense to carry an umbrella whenever you go out, if there’s space in your bag?”

Among the six present, only she was always prepared, and Yuu, who had a cheating tool, carried an umbrella. Thus, she spoke with great confidence, leaving no room for others to argue.

Yumiko pouted. Clearly, she disliked her condescending attitude. “Why bother carrying one? Besides, we won’t get soaked when getting into the car. Or we could just buy an umbrella or raincoat at the convenience store.”

Yukino’s eyes narrowed. She immediately argued back: “That’s handling after; this is prevention before.”

Facing that cold gaze, Yumiko sneered angrily: “Ha, who knows what will happen before? Of course, we should think of ways to deal with it after.”

“What if there’s no time to deal with it after? Will your life just be endlessly fixing mistakes?”

“It’s just rain—why talk about life? How weird!”

“Alright, alright, don’t fight.” Yuigahama held onto Yumiko. Ordinary Girl held onto Yukino. The two, in perfect sync, began mediating. “Let’s talk about this again if it actually rains. For now, let’s happily go shopping, okay?”

“Hmph!” The Fire Queen turned her face away, too lazy to argue further.

“Tch.” The Ice Queen brushed her hair, as if wasting time on boring things.

As for the couple, they watched the drama from the side. Masuzu initially wanted to buy popcorn to add to the fun, but Yuu stopped her. She tried to bite his finger again, but her head was held and controlled. So she sulked instead.

After the small argument subsided, just before everyone chose a store to enter, Yuigahama suddenly said:

“By the way, later, if possible, how about we look for the Happy Little Jizo?”

“What’s that?”

She held up a small brochure she’d gotten somewhere. Yuigahama opened it and showed it to everyone: “Look, it says here—In Kiyomizu Scenic Area, there’s an urban legend called the Happy Little Jizo. It doesn’t actually exist, yet it’s said to be everywhere.”

“Contradictory. Did the scriptwriter even think about what they were saying?” Yukino reflexively looked for errors, but no one paid attention.

Yuigahama continued reading from the brochure: “It only appears before those who yearn for happiness. Maybe in the corner of a convenience store, or in the middle of bushes—so long as you offer a small offering after seeing it, you’ll achieve your wish and gain the happiness you long for!”

Yuu: “So cliché.”

Masuzu: “I prefer the urban legend of the Slit-Mouthed Woman. Cutting a few people’s mouths with a krak krak sound must feel so relieving... Hehehe.”

Yukino: “In the end, is this promotional method actually effective? I don’t think it boosts sales here. And the script needs rewriting.”

Ordinary Girl: “Really? I actually find it quite romantic...”

Yumiko: “Give up. Their romance meter is zero. Don’t compare them to yourself.”

“It’s just an extra activity.” After seeing the varied reactions, Yuigahama scratched her cheek. She put the brochure away. “It’s fine if we don’t find it. But if we actually do, wouldn’t that mean we’re very lucky? It’d be a small happiness in life!”

Since it was optional, not many cared after she said it. They soon forgot about it.

This time, it was Yumiko’s turn to lead. She confidently walked into this clothing store and quickly found a counter of a brand that wasn’t expensive but had good quality.

Then, Yukino’s nightmare began.
