Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon | Intercontinental Title Ladder Match: SummerSlam 1995
Added 2025-11-04 17:00:15 +0000 UTCI just adore this era of wrestling. Thanks for the suggestion, AWR!

Shawn having a match for his TWA promotion in 2000 makes me believe that his drug issues were the real reason it took so long for him to return. https://youtu.be/iQmEkpbJJvE?si=mKI4ZB98hd5Rq2SD

2025-11-10 11:57:31 +0000 UTCAs a wrestling dork, seeing people watch these older matches is like catnip for me. Plus, it gives me an excuse to watch them again. A couple random of notes. You mentioned if Shawn had the title, this would be quick title change, but this was actually 18 months after the first ladder match. WM X was in April '94, this was in August '95. - It's a great match, only real blemish and I don't think you noticed this, but in the ending, Shawn is unable to reach the title from the ladder's position, so he throws a quick tantrum and positions the ladder properly before retrieving the title. Because while Shawn's a nice Dad to all the NXT girls now, he kind of was a prima donna at this time. - Michaels actually missed basically four years between WM XIV in '98 where he dropped the World Title to Austin and his return in '02 due to a major back injury suffered during a casket match against 'Taker. Now, there are various thoughts on how much of that time he was truly injured, etc. due to backstage shenanigans but everybody agrees he was at least messed up enough to need a long time off. - So, was going to mention this on the first HBK/Ramon match, but the reason for the two titles was basically Michaels was a bit of prima donna back then so he walked out instead of dropping the I-C title, so they gave a BS reason and vacated the title - Ramon won it, Vince & Shawn patched up, HBK came back and Michaels came back, basically claiming to be the true I-C Champ. If I remember right about this specific match, Vince and others looked at the Summerslam card and determined, there wasn't actually going to be a good match on the card so they reworked things. - To follow up on that, while the New Generation has great vibes if you have a certain sort of nostalgia, but there's a reason you've only been likely getting request for matches involving HBK, Ramon, Bret, and maybe 'Taker. Because the rest was...not so great. - Michaels mooning the crowd spot is basically stolen directly from Ric Flair, who I'm sure stole it from some other territory heel in the 60s.

2025-11-06 00:12:17 +0000 UTCI don’t think I’ve ever actually watched this match. I’ve heard it’s better than the first though. Also either Scott or Shawn have told the story that they weren’t allowed to use the ladder as a weapon so they had to devise spots around that

2025-11-05 17:14:37 +0000 UTCAs a bisexual growing up in the 90s, WWF was very much just seen as live action cartoon characters. Pro wrestling like most combat sports (pre determined or otherwise) was seen as very hetrosexual to the point that there are numerous heel gay panic gimmicks. At this time (1995) heel wrestler Goldust had just debuted who got heat by flirting with other male wrestlers leading to chants of the f slur during his matches and things like Jerry Lawler calling him a "flaming f**" during a promo. mainstream American Wrestling was never really that inclusive of anything but straight white male thankfully thats changed abit.

2025-11-05 15:22:50 +0000 UTCPro wrestling was always looked as a circus act by non fan; and there was those who thought it shouldn't be taken seriously a "real sport". People would often say, you can watch it as a kid but eventually, you have to grow out of it, at least that how I remember it. The new generation era (mid 90s) was an underrated era in wrestling, but unappreciated during its time since it was a wwe low point, at least financially.
