Gorgeous George vs. Larry Moquin - 1948???

I think this one is from 1948?? I think that makes this the oldest match I've watched so far, y'all suggest some really neat ones! I'm officially a Gorgeous George girly. Thanks for the suggestion, Dylan!

Also apologies for the lateness on this one! Been a bit under the weather lately and still trying to sort things out. Watching matches has been a great distraction though so keep 'em coming. :)

Yoo that's so rad, I love that!

Many pro wrestling historian would consider Gorgeous George as the first ever Heel in pro wrestling and the origin of many heel tactics. He left a huge impact on wrestling, and many wrestlers were influenced by him. He gave advice to a young Muhammad Ali, "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing and always be outrageous."

I hope you're feeling better. The ring was getting covered in perfume before the match started and George got hit by his silver mirror at the end of the video. The oldest match I've seen is a 1908 George Hackenschmidt match vs. Joe Rogers. It's before the slam bang western style of wrestling was introduced, so it's mostly mat grappling. I'm not suggesting it though, due to the slower style + a lack of sound, but it's cool that it's available to watch. https://violentpeople.co/the-hackenschmidt-holy-grail/ I'm not sure what the earliest women's match that we have full footage of is, but the Chicago Film Archives has footage of women's wrestling from the 50's. https://m.youtube.com/@chicagofilmarchivespresent1774
