FIRST TIME REACTION to Elton John / The Beach Boys / The Beatles / Talking Heads / Fleetwood Mac

I have NEVER heard this longer version of "GOOD VIBRATIONS" before, the ending is a little different from the one that we are used to. Cool hearing this long version for the first time. I know it was NEVER played on the radio at the time, or since. I have met Pete Best about 6 times over the years since the late '80s until around 2015, playing with his band. He is a very sweet guy, and very funny. He had wonderful stories about his time with the other 3 (and with Stu Sutcliffe who was their original bass player) during their gigs in Hamburg Germany. Had my photo taken with him each time. He is a very humble, kind guy. At least he was to me each time. He FINALLY received royalties on the first volume of the BEATLES ANTHOLOGY which covered their early period and the songs that he drummed on for their Decca audition, which, back in the late '70d was bootlegged into an album, which I have, and then LEGALLY are featured on Vol. 1 of the 3 part "ANTHOLOGY" series. So, he FINALLY made a good amount of money from that, which was well deserved and long overdue, in my opinion. I told him the second time I met him, that in MY opinion, he should always be remembered as a member of the BEATLES, because he was, and during their formative years as a band playing 8 hour gigs in the dives of the red light district in Hamburg.

I can help with knowing which version of "Love Me Do" has Ringo playing drums. The version where you hear a TAMBOURINE, is Andy White on drums. That's RINGO playing the tambourine. George Martin felt bad because Ringo looked so forlorn, seeing as this was going to be their first single, so he had Ringo play the tambourine so he was at least ON the recording. The version WITH Ringo on drums, has NO tambourine. SO it's easy to know which one you are listening to.

Great marathon JK! I missed this one on Youtube so I'm kind of relieved that I can catch up here. All great songs but my highlight, as usual, is The Beatles' 'Rain'. It's OK Nick, Ringo is playing the drums here, and kudos for highlighting his performance. He believed 'Rain' was his best recorded performance ever! It was only a 'B'-side (to 'Paperback Writer' in 1966). Can you believe it? Such an amazing track stuck on a B-side to a single! Even Ringo had a tough time early on Nick. Pete Best was fired after their audition session at Abbey Road for EMI in mid 1962 when John, Paul and George were quietly told by producer George Martin that the drummer wasn't good enough. They asked Ringo to join as he was considered the best drummer in Liverpool. When they went back to Abbey Road to record their first single 'Love Me Do' even Ringo struggled, and George Martin brought in session drummer Andy White to play drums and Ringo just played tambourine. It's still not 100% certain which take (Ringo's or Andy's) made it as the released version of 'Love Me Do' but from then on it was all Ringo. Three cheers for the rant, and we watch the video for your reactions and comments. If we cut out your commentary, the videos would have to be called 'Music'.... I already have that at home...
