The Doors - Peace Frog - Blue Sunday

Comments

Jim Morrison was so stoked with the prospect of Jerry sitting in with the Doors that he actually got sober. That's why this final album was so uniformly profoundly good with a great variety of sounds and moods. When Morrison was loaded the other members called him "Jimbo". As the years went by his alcoholism grew worse and three months after L.A.Woman came out the world lost a great artist named MR. Mojo Rising. His IQ was very close to genius but it didn't save him from self destructing. Like with Jimi and so many others, it was just sad that despite possessing such great gifts it offered no protection and they had to leave.

Thanks for playing two wonderful rarely played tracks! Now here's a copy and paste I wrote for The Changeling which you might've missed: What a great band on par with Steely Dan for releasing a string of stunningly good albums. This particular album was one I instantly loved in a huge way. It was the last Doors production and is an ideal bookend to their absolutely brilliant debut album. The rock solid bass playing is courtesy of Jerry Scheff who normally was in the Elvis Presley Band.

I, too, heard Sinatra in Blue Sunday. I grew up in L.A. but only discovered music in 1972, so I had a bit of catching up to do in high school and college. Became a huge Doors listener in college in the last half of the 70s - much to the dismay of my dorm neighbors. I can still listen to L.A. Woman without growing tired. Jim Morrison's voice is in my comfort range, so I love singing along in the car. I am happy to support you two as bright lights in musical corners of the internet.

Thank you! Be well and prosper!💛

Mark, when we left for NM we were sure we had everything timed out before the trip but just yesterday we realized we hadn’t done the raffle!! I’m actually getting a COVID test now because I’ve felt super poopy since Sunday night but we talked about doing the video today so expect it soon!! :)))))

NicknLex

Hey guys. Am I missing something? I was expecting to see your monthly raffle for a request. I can understand taking a break from the BMC Requests, but you have established an agreement with paying Patreon members for a monthly raffle. Have you broken that agreement? Please say NO!

If Jimi Hendrix was still around, and somebody asked him to play with his teeth - he could just take out his dentures and use them as a pick.

Sorry it took me so long to watch this video! Forgot all about it. Thanks for the shout out, my peeps! maybe next time you can do The W.A.S.P. (Texas Radio and the Big Beat). I'll keep hoping.

This whole album, 'Morrison Hotel' is so good. Hoping you do "Queen of the Highway" but all tracks are worth listening to.

Old souls have keen intuitions. These two songs go together like soup and sandwich, speaking frankly of snotra. Mein bruder had Morrison Hotel which I would play when he wasn't, and Peace Frog flowed into Blue Sunday unlike any other two song on the album. Perfect pair. Like y'all. "Waiting for the Sun" has a similar vibe as "Riders on the Storm", and even a similar title structure. 27 seems to be the year to get beyond, and I discovered this when I kept hearing about people doing outrageous deeds, and nearly every one of them was 26 or 27...which I found was also peak year for committing violent crimes. We've lost so many at this troubling age. We should be able to create alternatives to save the Jim Morrisons from themselves. I digress. Great show! Another voice like Jim's can be found in Brendan Perry of Dead Can Dance, who pairs beautifully with Lisa Gerrard.

[Was there something wrong with your mic? I had to crank up the volume to hear you two, but turn it down for the song.] Peace Frog and Blue Sunday are almost always played as a duo, glad you found it even if unplanned. Definitely from the late 60s, involving various riots at the time. "Blood in the streets in the town of New Haven...", both immortalizing the riot there, and also that the New Haven (Connecticut) Police arrested Jim Morrison at the end of one concert there (I forget why) -- but that's only a few miles away from where I live, and lived thru that time (I was pre teen or so, methinks).
