The Great Hunt Summary!

THE NEXT INSTALLMENT! (As always, PLEASE give us your feedback so we can make the final product as accurate and streamlined as possible.)

Even notes on delivery from me! I am willing to rerecord a whole episode... despite how much it will drain my soul. lol Lord of Chaos was recorded yesterday!

Comments

Somehow my brain auto-corrected and I've been reading it as "Arthur Hawking" all this time instead of Artur Hawkwing. I'll be honest i like mine better lol

Hahaha... your summary has me giggling. You need to share the little bgm you used when you read excerpts from the book. When the Amyrlin called on Rand, i was kinda hoping you tried the Cat Walking thingy Lan taught Rand... the one that makes him seemed Proud and Arrogant. haha. Lan and Nynaeve is kinda epic. And that snit Nynaeve tries to do with Lan trying to apologies for rejecting her earlier... haha. Lan is a smooth talker, for sure. Corinthian Cycle? Is this a real document? You keep referring to this. I know you meant Karaethon Cycle, but is there an interesting reason you keep saying Corinthian? Ah, about Thom and Dana. Yeah, kinda dark there. You said he emulate JW? Maybe.. but he went extra. He uses the power of Rumour to oust and kill Galldrian (The Current Cairhien King? The one who ordered the hit) in the ultimate GoT move. How about that? Falme. Rand become Giant? I didn't remember that. I remember he rode on the Clouds, and somehow everyone can see his fight. And his fight are directly tied to 100 Heroes vs Seanchan, instead of Whitecloak vs Seanchan (i think the Whitecloaks were already routed at this point. Yes. They lost) But a Giant specifically? Really? Hmm.... have to go back and re-read. And yes, Lanfear is that hot in the books. Possibly the hottest female character in Fantasy/ Sci-fi at one point? hmm...

Doraemax

I love randa interaction with the amyrlin. Because he tells lan he knows how to bow, he's seen the guards bow to morgase. So he is bowing to the amyrlin as a soldier in the amyrlins army would bow to their ruler.

Jordan Lovell

Romance in these books is super weird. I remember how I thought Min falling in love with Rand was bizarre. She's only falling in love with him because she can see into the future where she does. So she thinks she has to love him. So does she really love him? I feel like if I were her I'd say screw destiny I make my own path and just leave.

slytherindoctor

Such a fun white board!!

As a new WoT reader (I'm about halfway through book 3), I absolutely did not pick up that Liandrin was Black Ajah at the beginning. I knew something was off but I didn't get that until she betrayed the girls. What did she lie about? I think that part might need a little tweaking for the people who have only read it once.

Jess Berler

Thanks for this summary. Will help when I get to reading the book. Definitely enjoyed your Angelina Jolie similarity. Was there any explanation as to how Moraine arrived at Falme so quickly? Traveling hasn't been introduced as yet.

Carol Briscoe

The Angelina Jolie part! (laughing emoji)

Adam Bruton

Love these videos!!! Your artwork it killing me. LOL

Cynthia Long

every sneaky background edit is 10/10, no notes, especially the badum-tish at the "lesser of two weevils" and the "NO" about adding in a horn sound

Steven Walther

I think some of the detail is necessary because it builds up on what will become important later on.

Christine Renner

Min doesn't escape, she's caught along with Egwene.

Lill

You keep mentioning Elayne as though she's in Fal Dara, but she's not.

Lill

There should not be! I am restricting every summary to just the info in that book.

Daniel Greene

Is there spoilers for other books in the video. I’m only on book four and I see people talking in the comments about Elayne choosing red and stuff? Just wanna know bc so far I’m lucky to be spoiled on things that aren’t too big of a deal. Don’t wanna push my luck 😭

Ibrahim Garka

Love this video and the previous one as well :) One tiny feedback is that my adhd-brain can’t focus on the visuals because of the very shiny moving lights :)

Johanna Holm

Ok so Feedback from my BF who is not a WOT fan and has only read the first 3 books to be ready for the first season of the show.... he said too much detail. felt more like a retelling than a summary. his example was the women's quarter piece. That could just be "Rand is assisted by Egwene to hide in the women's quarters". the rest you should get from actually reading. I had explained that you were looking to fit under the 12 hour youtube timeline.

We can see the yellow arm, all good 💪

I love the contrast between early books Rand wanting Moiraine to lead him, to how he is in later books. Siuan isn’t too worried about Elayne picking the Red, more worried about how the Reds ‘finding’ her has enhanced their status and given them more power. I love how you narrate the scenes! Your voices give an appropriate gravity to them. Is it worth mentioning the Luc and Isam prophecy? Or are you going to circle back to that? I don’t believe Luc had been mentioned until this point, but Isam had a brief mention in EotW, and Moiraine also makes a mental note not to mention it to Lan in case he goes looking. Moiraine also gives a little backstory on Tam, which could be good to put in for people who were wondering about him. I know when I did my first read of the series Tam’s origins were a burning point for me after the first book. Ingtar is the one who decides to call Perin a sniffer to stop the men from gossiping about him. Love your Selene drawing XD but she’s described with dark eyes 😊 Could be worth mentioning that Rand was unwilling to do what Selene wanted and use the portal stone, but suddenly a bunch of grolm appear and he fights off one pack, but then magically more start coming which forces them to do what she wanted and go to the portal stone. I think it’s worth mentioning that in the book the original a’dams contain a leash. Show watchers to see this might not know. Also with the Whitecloaks, I think it could be good to mention the differences between Bornhald and Carridin and how Carridin was giving all these weird orders that ultimately lead Bornhald to believe he might be a Darkfriend and disobey them. Also Mat has gone with the Tower group because his separation from the dagger was killing him and he needs to be fully healed from it.

Nikita Balfour

Another excellent video! I was only confused about why Martin Sheen would be chasing the heroes through the Ways so much shouting about blood, but I guess that's just another of Robert Jordan's oddities.

Chris Davis

Kayla Replying: Thank you!!! I was actually wondering about this so I will make that change going forward.

Daniel Greene

A small point with the editing, it may be helpful when you zoom to what's being pointed at to hold in place a bit longer. It's a little hard at times to focus on the new zoom before it's pulled back.

Tyler Shivers

Very nice, and just like the books this one really moves. Sorry to state the obvious, as if no one noticed while editing, but auto focus needs adjusting please. It’s a little headache inducing. Keep going these are great.

I love this so much and it is going to be my favourite thing for the next weeks watching and fact checking this. Had a lot of fun looking all of this up (although I really should be reviewing my clients’ documents and not your video…) - professional deformity, clearly. I would not change a single thing about the general video or your delivery - it is great! Now, on to the fact checking section and for anyone reading this who has not read the books, I consider this comment section entire fair game for any spoilers: - Fabulous little reference to Egwene being enterprising in Fal Dara from Moraine - Siuan is not terrified that Elayne would choose the red (“I don’t think the girl leans to their way of thinking […]”) but discovering her has made the red gain status in the hall - page 47 of the hardcover (all page number references going forward will be to the hardback); little additional thing: I just realised that she is almost always referred to as the Amyrlin which is a fun little world and character moment - Liandrin and Amalisa: I am not sure that a first time reader would see this - Rand names the dark one immediately before the attack - would that be worth commenting on to show the superstition? - Rand crosses glances with the Amyrlin while on his run (75) - Again, Liandrin, in the cells: Do we actually have the wording of the three oaths at that point? - “I do not have a brown marker so I am using black” - hilarious, IYKYK - In my head Lan wants to annoy Moraine and Siuan - The sword thing: I am not sure she wanted to test him I think she actually wanted to know if the sword was power wrought but then discovered that he “had a spine” - (106) - This is also important because they were talking about Tam’s background before - I am assuming you are leaving this out here on purpose - You mention Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne for the leave-taking (twice) - that should probably be re-recorded, sorry! - I love that you included the Perrin snark on the finding out - I always laugh out loud when I re-read that - Loial’s explanation on the portal stone seemed much less authoritative than you made it sound but I might be wrong - The sniffer disguise is thought of by Ingtar - no one else knows - Perrin learns of his nickname when he reaches out to find where to go (191) and not when they meet the Aiel (343) - Your introduction of Selene is hilarious (though I really did not picture Angelina Jolie - from a perspective of the 14 year old girl who has read this for the first time in 1998 - but more like an ethereal Arwen, :D) - The weirdly effective potion should have really given Rand an extreme flashback to Nynaeve doing the exact same thing all throughout his childhood - Are we sure that it is Rand using the portal stone and not Lanfear, hem sorry, Selene - he definitely touches the source but it goes so badly wrong the next time - Nice Sauron and Daes Dae’mar impression - Giving back the harp is surely more important, maybe name it first if you are re-recording for another reason - Thom would be mortally offended - This story line also has an additional reminder for the readers (similar to book one) that Thom is deeply involved in Daes Dae’mar and that world - To be fair to Rand, he left the horn and dagger with Hurin who is injured in the whole adventure there and has to be healed by Verin - Dying with your description of the Barthanes party and Rand - Loial’s future wife is in the Stedding but he meets here there, it almost sounded as if he knew her before - Had a little jolt with the fact that we are on page 441, you say meanwhile and we go back to Dena dying and then to the entire second story - Nynaeve should probably be in her mid twenties - The third testing: the situation refers to their fairly grown up three children (page 295) whom she never meets, they are only referred to - Love the fact that you pointed out that Liandrin did not know about the holes in the wall - On the flickerflicker: love that you mention the boys reactions, I presume you do not mention Verin on purpose? (450) - I have not found that Verin says one would die of the five riding forward but I might be mistaken. - They leave both Seta and Renna; this scene also has a very Gandalf-like quote from Nynaeve (548) “Perhaps they do, and perhaps he would. But men often mistake revenge and killing for justice. They seldom have the stomach for justice.” - Is Ingtar a blademaster? Also: love your little sidetrack there. - Why? ‘Cause Robert Jordan. - The White Tower crew also includes Mat - not sure if you left that out on purpose

Christine Renner

“Kayla, put in a horn sound” “NO” *Horn sounds in last ten seconds* 😂😂😂😂😂 so funny

Michael Provenzano

👀 now I’m underwhelmed with how I handled the flicker scene. While I have to be careful with flashing lights, imma mull this over.

Daniel Greene

Love it. I fully expected a full EDM concert flicker cut scene lol

Blake Engholm

I thought this too but the difference isn't as substantial as I thought! I always remembered them being around 16, but most are like 19 or twenty according to the wiki. You are right though, even just an overlay on screen would be a good add. Thank you!

Daniel Greene

Hey Chris! I love this feedback and thank you! I have gotten a lot of praise for including those as well, but trust me I will try and vary up my style going forward. They certainly are long as well which can be a problem. I am also just not a voice actor like Kayla. :P For the final edit, I might ask the professional to give it a swing!

Daniel Greene

Oh don't worry we are cooking! The shame is I only took dumb Iphone photos of the first few boards before erasing them, but going forward we will be taking super high res just in case for the future.

Daniel Greene

Hey all! I have seen a few comments worrying I am pushing myself too hard making these videos. We are surprisingly working a better work life balance than normal with this project. I start whiteboarding in the morning and am ready to record by about 5 or six and am done by 7 or 8pm. Kayla is editing 8 hours a day on each and no more. The only reason it seems like its coming fast is you have a combined 16 hours a day hacking at this from two people. These are also just first drafts. We will be going through and polishing each one again before a final release. :) Seriously, thank you for the concern though! It is really sweet.

Daniel Greene

I guess I better get moving on watching the rest of the first video! In your recent Fantasy News video you mentioned the idea of merch using the whiteboard images. I have some ideas. 1. Posters and artwork that can be hung on the wall 2. Notebooks (where the whiteboard image is the cover) 3. Mousepads 4. Shower curtains. I don't know what kind of products your merch shop platform offers. I've used Zazzle for years and all of these are available there and many more. Also, you might make a digital download of them available at certain Patreon levels, for people to use as wallpaper on their computers.

Melissa Worcester

Keep it up! So thankful you are working on this! But please also take care of yourself! 🙏

Phantom

Hi Daniel. Loved the video! The length and style of delivery is perfect, especially the humour that is injected into it all. The only piece of critical feedback I would have (you did ask for it!) is in regard to the tone and style you use when reading excerpts from the book. You tend to deliver all excerpts in a very similar style - very over-dramatic and "angry". It was especially noticeable for Moiraine's monologue - it sounded like she was about to bite some of the Emond's Fielder's heads off! It feels like you're just trying to make all passages sound "dramatic", even when talking "in role" for a specific character, rather than modifying your tone depending on which character you're trying to depict at that moment. For that passage, the way I imagine it is that Moiraine is always speaking relatively softly and gently, but with a firm, commanding presence that cannot be ignored or countered. It might be asking a lot, but if you can also capture the feel, tone and "voice" of a passage rather than just the words, it would elevate those sections of your video to another level!

Chris Davis

I love the amount of detail the first video went into (and I’m sure the second one will too, I am going to watch in a few minutes) but a critique I wanted to give for the first video was a mention of ages. From my first read and reread of EotW, there’s no mention of ages but from my understanding they aren’t as old as they are depicted in the book. I think a little Brief moment on that would also help

Michael Provenzano

Haven’t watched yet cause i’m at work but JESUS MAN youve already recorded Book 6?! are you even sleeping ? 😭
