Light completely abdicated the Death Note when he said “get rid of it.” He is not the owner of any Death Note at this very moment. Regarding the scene in the forest, with Light making the Shinigamis drop the notebooks and catch them, here’s what he did: 1) When he arrived in the forest, he was the owner of two notebooks: his original and Misa’s (who had already relinquished possession of her Death Note). 2) He began by returning Misa’s notebook to Rem and abdicating it. Consequently, he ceased to be its owner (though he still possessed his original). 3) He asked Rem to pass Misa’s notebook to Ryuk, making Ryuk become the owner of Misa’s notebook. 4) He asked Ryuk to drop Misa’s notebook on the ground, causing it to return to the human world. 5) He picked up Misa’s notebook and became its owner, once again having two notebooks. 6) Then he took his own notebook (Light’s) and returned it to Ryuk, abdicating it, and remained the owner of only Misa’s notebook. 7) He asked Ryuk to pass his original Light notebook to Rem, who became its owner. 8) He instructed Rem to take his notebook away (no further details here; it will be shown in upcoming episodes). 9) He returned Misa’s notebook to Ryuk WITHOUT YET ABDICATING IT, and instructed Ryuk to bury it. 10) Moreover, he instructed Ryuk that he would abdicate from Misa’s notebook whenever he said, in any context, the words “get rid of it.” 11) Ryuk buried Misa's notebook. As for his reasons for doing all this, I’ll leave you to ponder!
