I did not ask them to be spoiled, just a summarized recap. ! Most people dont get it until a re-watch. Especially the finer details which easily get missed and make this a special anime. Look at their state now - so many crucial details are going over their heads, even at 4x10 they dont know the meaning of rumbling !

2025-03-01 02:48:30 +0000 UTCDeath Note and a few others are okay in Dub, but only a few. AOT in dub in my opinion is nowhere near as good as Sub except Erwin's speech and Levi. Black Bultler is another one I prefer dub. Not many dubs do the original justice and that's why I think people feel so passionate about it. At the end of the day if it helps you understand the story better than that's okay. Everyone is different and has their own preferences.

Most people do prefer sub, as do I, but there are definitely plenty of people who like Dub or don’t mind either way. Choose whatever works for you, because there will always be a market for it. Personally, I find Dub to be very harsh on the ears, and the American accent prevents me from being fully immersed in the story. I’m a strong reader, so the subtitles don’t distract me from the show in any way.

I made my mum watch the whole of AoT, and she asked me questions every 5 minutes in Season 4 😭 I’d have to pause and explain who’s who again, whether we’re in a flashback or whatnot, and that Subjects of Ymir = Eldians 😂 The best advice I can give is just keep watching! 🤗 It all becomes clear eventually haha

I became a patron, because I enjoy watching this fun, middle aged group of people, who have no idea at all what to expect from anime, trying it out with an open mind. Whether it's sub or dub. And I am sure a lot of other subs/patrons will feel the same way whichever you choose. So don't worry about maybe losing some (there are enough other flavors of reaction channels out there for them). I just hope you don't feel the need to conform to certain expectations and that this whole discussion won't leave you with any negative feelings about experiencing anime in general.

I can wholeheartedly say I prefer sub over dub just because 1. JP VA are waaay superior to US VA 2. Some sentences are not accurate in dub and are sometimes changed to cater to western audiences at the expense of the original translation, Erwin's charge is a good example where the dub slightly changes some things.

Dub maxis are so unbearable and selfish it is almost more cringe than the dub itself. Stick to how the show was originally meant to be viewed please. The original writers, animators, and VAs put their heart and soul into their work. Like what do you mean you cannot understand what is happening? Just read???? I’ve seen moments where the sub voice acting have the group almost hypnotized. I enjoy the death note reactions too but I have not seen that kind of reaction so far with the dub.

The original voice actors are literally chosen to bring the characters to life with full emotional depth and nuance. Dubs often butcher this, losing key inflections and delivery that make scenes impactful. If you can’t grasp that, then you’re running on such low mental bandwidth that even dial-up would feel sorry for you. Maybe focus less on what is convenient for you and more on developing basic comprehension skills.

As a person reacting to AoT in another reaction channel with trying out the dub for the first time described it as watching a “power rangers” cartoon, and described watching Code Gease in dub as watching a Disney movie. Watching some of the live readings for these Japanese VAs in AoT will make you realize how incredible their performances are.

I remember going from s3e21 immediately to s4e1 and backing out to make sure the streaming service didn't accidently have a different show in place of season 4 and I was so fixated on how different it was that I could not follow what was happening it took like three or four watch throughs for me to grasp what was happening the first part of season 4 Also congrats on the sponsers guys

It is 4 years after the events from the end of Season 3. It is taking place on the "other side of the sea" in Marley.
