Is that a fair statement to make here?” Yes, Karl, that’s correct. I know it can be confusing because there was so much information in the episode “That Day,” but it was all explained. Let’s break it down: 1. Yes, the “people of the world” do not have the ability to become Titans. This power is unique to the Subjects of Ymir. You can think of the Subjects of Ymir as a race composed of everyone who, in one way or another, descends from Ymir. 2. Regarding the world itself, so far we’ve been introduced to Marley, which is a country. This country is special because, in the Great Titan War that took place a hundred years ago, it was the Marleyans who managed to overthrow the Eldians and end Eldia’s domination of the world. 3. Just to recap what was presented in the episode “That Day”: according to Marley’s own account, the Eldian Empire was founded 1,800 years ago when Ymir Fritz made a “pact with the devil” and obtained the Power of the Titans. Ymir passed this power on to her descendants, and using it, Eldia ruled the world for 1,700 years, promoting ethnic cleanses, destroying nations and so on. The Great Titan War was a civil war within the Eldian Empire itself, which ended when the Eldians fled to an island (the island where the entire story we’ve watched so far takes place), called Paradis. 4. Marley manages to control 7 of the 9 Titans through its “interment zone” policy. In these zones, Subjects of Ymir are allowed to live (as second-class citizens who must wear armbands when leaving their homes). As explained in “That Day,” the Marleyans created a program called the “Warrior Program,” in which Eldian children can serve Marley by becoming warriors who inherit the Intelligent Titans. By doing so, the child and their immediate family are granted the status of “Honorary Marleyans.”

And how Paradis is located in an island, again Japan. Also add to the fact that we tend to villify people who we dont even meet, like the Chinese and Russians, and our governments are actively trying to insinuate that they are bad people, like they're kinda similar to Marleyans. I don't know I'm just babbling lol

2025-02-20 01:54:35 +0000 UTCI recently started thinking why AoT can resonate with a wide audience. It has everything from world building to dark themes and allegories to real life. The show can take itself serious but can also be light-hearted. It made me think randomly of mecha animes like Gundam because of how nuanced those shows usually are. Then I realized what many people have probably said to themselves at one point: Is AoT a mecha anime? Titans are essentially piloted by people. I think it strangely is in which case it's one of the most popular ones but technically it's not. I find that a little funny
