Illustrated Dev Diary, August 6th, 2021

I thought I'd start this update by talking a bit about the release date video.

I know there's been some comments about the video, and how Cece could go behind the MC's back and attempt to do such a thing when they seemingly had a perfect time together (especially if you were on her path). I also know that some feel betrayed by her doing so.

LoF is inspired by five words someone very close to me said before she ended her own life. Because of it, LoF addresses some things connected to depression, not just to Cece. Though in her case, she's obviously the most affected by it. To claim that a nice summer with some good friends is going to 'cure' her is highly unlikely.

So, in order for me to change her mindset and behaviour, and give you a feeling that her ending is a realistic one - and that the MC (or you, as a player) won't have to worry that she will fall back for the rest of his life, I had to introduce a horrible event. That event is meant to change her thought process completely.

It's also strongly connected to the title of the game.

Also, I'd like to mention that Chapter 6 is not at all a depressing chapter, even if that event puts some shadow on it. But it's an important chapter in our journey towards the 8th and final one.

Other than that, we're now at 15,068 animated frames, and 1,128 story renders. I probably went a but nuts with that animation at the end of the video, but when I did the render test, it rendered so fast I decided to go with it, and it saved me a lot of story renders.

Anyway, it's been a busy week. Time to kick back for a few hours and enjoy a nice cold one.

Have a nice weekend, and stay safe.

Looking at the image above, we can only be happy to see that obviously his suicide attempt was not successful and that damn bridge did not have the height expected. Cece just has to go and redo his wardrobe in a clothing store. What ? Is there something that I didn't quite understand?

Thanks mate. I was 16 and I’m 52 now so it was awhile ago.

Glad your still with us

Wildfire

Those who have attempted to take their lives know there is no such thing as an instant cure, Thank you for keeping that realism of depression in this game. Although it really breaks me heart to see it

Moony

I’ve been there and attempted it myself. Just stick with your plan. We’ll just have to take that leap of faith with you, wherever it leads. πŸ‘πŸ»

I also had someone very close to me take her own life. Some people don't understand that depression isn't always visible and obvious. Sometimes someone who looks very happy is dealing with an impossible struggle on the inside. Besides that, I trust your process! Keep doing what you think is best!

Quality stuff D, have a good weekend mate.

I felt that superrealistic that scen. I struggle between love and superfriend just couse i new that a good writer, could take that into thi story. I feel a close connection to her, couse i have been like her, and know that a superhappy summer with deep love, dosnt nessesarly cure that kind depression couse her pain is, feelings, and her selfimage is that love is hurt and not for her, even when struck by some sunlight, that dosent easily go away :/

Thanks for the update Drifty!! I trust you brother!

Wolvy

Luckily, most people agree with this, and I will make it up to you in the next one.

I had a feeling of what is this horrible event could be :D but I trust Drifty's writing, I mean, if not because of his storytelling, beautiful characters, banters, spot-on music choices then probably I will not be playing this game.

Gie Silverback

There is a reason depression is called the silent killer. I would think the story is unbelievable if she wouldn't relapse. It only makes a more heartfelt story imho.
