Dr. Gronski would have the definitive answer, but as I understand it, the muscles involved need to be able to both tone up and relax for erections at least. Some of these muscles control the flow of blood into the penis for erections. The muscles need to relax to let the blood enter and then tense up to lock the blood in. The Kegel exercise I see most often is to strengthen the muscles for more rigid erection and for control of urinary flow. For me the issue was lack of spontaneous erections. I had erections, but not spontaneous like those we usually have through the night. I had massage of the perineal muscles and did reverse Kegel exercises to learn to relax them and am now having the normal spontaneous erections through the night. AND some times when they are inconvenient.

2025-02-28 04:29:19 +0000 UTCSo I have a question - I found Dr Susie online while doing research prior to having a Urolift procedure completed to alleviate my specific BPH condition and relieve bladder and kidney stones - during this time I came across a bunch of information on the prostate and the pelvic floor - I have also had a number of other medical issues popup over the past 6 years or so and have seen two different PT groups in dealing with diastasis recti and other urological issues - what I have learned is that there is a lot of grey area surrounding the kegels - some say you should work the heck out of them for the stronger your pelvic floor is the better off you are - others say that too strong of a pelvic floor can cause even worse issues - then I have heard that there really are no standards on how strong or weak the pelvic floor is and it really is determined on an individual basis - furthermore, they say the pelvic floor has to be BOTH strong AND have the ability to relax equally as well also!!! WHEH!!! So what gives??? Hoping our resident professional Dr Susie can shed some light on it for me - also in working with my PT groups I have learned that the pelvic floor muscles (AKA what the kegel exercises are working) are CO-contributer muscles to our deep core TVA muscles (transverse abdominals) and that when you work the deep core effectively the pelvic floor will contract as well for they are connected - you work one properly you work the other - so activities such as Pilates or barre or other deep core related activities will ALSO work your pelvic floor muscles as well - the question is how much is TOO much and how can you tell the difference between STRONG pelvic floor muscles and WEAK ones?? So after seeing the do 10 kegels on the bingo board I began scratching my head - then to make this even more confusing how do you tell if you are actually completing the kegels properly and working the correct muscles!!! Dr Susie - HELP!!!!!!
