I mean, vagus was trying to get away from being a Laconian in the first place since he always was consider to be a failure, he just notices that he didn't had a choice anyways, regardless of the phylax getting or not support victims would had been made and Rhea as solon( or at least solon) knew the decision of him to try be just a commoner. Still guess even he told that he likely would be hearing just bullshit again despite still supported in the attack against the village anyways. Likely if actually good parenting was given to both him and his brother, mayyyybe he wouldn't consider to forget his past wouldn't he?

He ALWAYS looks for the negative traits about his son and amplifying it tenfold. And ofc he would believe it over the good things that were said about him. Vagus never explicitly stated that he REFUSED to help Solon or Rhea, but ofc he would word it that way.
