This might surprise you, but I don't think that Vagus wants that. I think he knows that he won't win either an argument or duel against his dad or mom. He wants to show them that they don't own him anymore; that if he's gonna get beaten up to a pulp or even die, he wants to still be himself: the better Pokemon that he became after spending time with the one he's grown to truly love and care for.
