2025-11-15 18:29:45 +0000 UTCI seriously doubt Tiger was stronger than Jinbe at any point. Jinbe is a different breed in terms of strength, and that scene with him getting beaten was filler. Tiger was always more of an adventurer than a fighter anyway, despite his obvious physical prowess. The reason Jinbe followed Tiger was because he was the eldest among the orphans in the Fishman District and Jinbe is the type of man who follows people he respects. And there was probably no one he respected more than Tiger.

During 16th century Japan pictures of Jesus and Mary's were used like this in order to root out suspected Christians. There's actually a ton of references to real historical events in One Piece, Oda clearly studied history to write all this lore.
