Details were so fun, plus I found a new technique to do precise details.
So for the curious ones, a detail or two about the process:
Masks:
You may or may not know that you can use shadows as a way to make light (ex01). You can erase shadow wherever there is light, which is an easier way to make it when you have more shadow than light on your painting.
But one of the major problems with this technique is, if you erase the shadow on the same layer everytime, it gets harder to do little details (like the ones you see on the tentacles)
That's where masks come in quite handy (ex02). You can erase the shadow however you want, and put the details later if needed with that said mask, without having to care too much about it.
Textures base on light:
Let's talk a little bit about the teeth as well, which I think are another example of how to make something great with light by using shadow (ex03).
I'm erasing the shadow where the light is the strongest, but as you can see, the teeth look like rocks (or the texture looks close to it at least). So you can erase some little parts as if you were carving into it (by using the opacity with stylet pressure), giving this "rocky" impression. I think it's also good not to over use it, otherwhise it would kill the global contrast between light and shadow.
I then use an overlay layer to make the light stronger and have a nice color effect between light and shadow (ex04). This red color appearing is mostly used on skins, to make it more realistic. It's called SSS (SubScattering Surface).
