hjkli9 it makes sense to me that 1) they were moving in together 2) she hoped that after living together, they'd get married one day, some time in the future ...
Mike stopped at moving in, he stopped at the step no.1 because the step no.2 was not an option for him. So they cancelled step 1, they stopped the moving in part.
Now that he agrees that step no.2 can happen, they can, again, start at step 1.

Viera so the conclusion is the she didn't need a proposal now but sometime in the future....this is boring tho right.... I thought u were onto something there! i guess proposal= Future +right now.... Yes this is the famous Fermi's theorem... now it makes sense

Mike and Phoebe do to David almost the same thing that Charlie and her ex do to Ross in the last season

JennaB that does make more sense. she didn't want to get engaged right then and there. and in desperation, he skipped it here. thanks!

I don't think that one person needs to propose to another in order for two people to agree to get married. I believe what she meant was she needed to know that the goal was for a future that involved getting married and having a family, not that she needed a proposal right away. Remember, she's speaking based on when they ended their relationship after agreeing to move in so he technically skips that step and goes straight to marriage.

MaggiLou152 the creators of this show are David Crane and Marta Kauffman, yes, but also the showrunner Kevin Bright is included in the creator trio often, so out of 3 main creators in most of the opening credits, two are men and this episode was written by Scott Silveri. nice try Maggi. telling a trauma victim to get over year long pain and trauma
fast enough to your liking? maybe get
over what ever is causing your cruelty and lack of empathy.

Was curious how long ago you started the series, since you're getting to the end. You posted the first episode on Dec 7, 2022. So next week, when you start season 10, will pretty much be the two year anniversary. So excited for you to get to the finale!

hkli9 i understand very well my friends, my mother, my grandmother, even some of my teachers and i think i understand pretty well even my colleagues who are women. nothing difficult to understand at all. Some men are, however,
hard to understand. as for fictional men, Ross is definitely hard to understand often, the biggest one is in the finale, so i won't spoil here but i just don't get it. And Joey and Chandler at times are not easy to understand as well.

not about understanding oneself...but other woman...its generally held perception that they are hard to understand...so the characters written for women are also sometimes like that...

hjkli9 no, i'm a woman, and i fully understand myself. Phoebe is not a woman, she's a product of men's minds, this episode was written by a man, Scott Silveri. two creators of this show are men, as well as at least half of the writers, so maybe it's men and their writing of a fictional character that is hard
to understand here....

Mike did sacrifice Phoebe for his independence. he left her because she made it clear she wants marriage and he insisted he will never change his mind. i just don't get when Phoebe says she never needed a proposal, only to know they have a future ... he literally did offer her future of living together forever.

Mike and Phoebe are a perfect match. You'll see more of their relationship next season. It's a very healthy relationship, second only to Monica and Chandler.

Nick, if you wanna watch Joey on the beach in the hole he dug, just go back to episode 1 of season 4...
btw, Joey saying smart people are dull is perfect summuing up of The Big Bang Theory and this culture. you cannot work out in the gym and also like science. You cannot be a fun comedian and also read a lot old books. You cannot love celebrity gossip as well as be good at math ... this is what The Breakfast Club in 1985 was addressing...

Chandler says their honeymoon photos look like him and Diana Ross.
Diana Ross is from The Supremes - known as the "Queen of Motown Records", she was their lead singer.
Their song "Stop! in the name of love" is an amazing combination of heartbreak and beauty. She has awesome hair 💖 , even today at the age of 80.... Losers like me, forever cursed with the "weasel dipped in grease" hairstyle can only dream 🙂.
Wow, a Harry Potter reference on Friends... first time i noticed it here ...

Exactly! Aside from having no chemistry, Rachel spent the prior seasons growing and evolving, and as funny as Joey is, he has only become more immature and unintelligent. It doesn’t work. At all. I can’t even watch these episodes without cringing.

Fun fact: Hank Azaria (David) revealed that originally Phoebe was meant to choose David. However, the audience loved Paul Rudd as Mike so the writers changed their minds. I love both Mike and David individually and with Phoebe, and Lisa has great chemistry with both actors. This is probably the only time on a TV show that I've watched that whoever a character was with I would have been happy either way. Though David has only been in a few episodes over the course of the show, he's been apart of it from almost the beginning and he and Phoebe have a lot more history. And even though Mike didn't appear until S9 we got to see more of the relationship dynamic between him and Phoebe. I also feel like Mike just suits her better, but I do have a soft spot for David and I would also have been happy if Phoebe chose him. And again, not a fan of this particular arc of Rachel and Joey.
Other fun facts: The Anna Kournikova virus was a real computer virus that spread worldwide in 2001. It was in an email attachment that said it had a nude photo of tennis player Anna Kournikova.
To touch on The Supremes some more: Some of their biggest hits are Baby Love, Stop! In the Name of Love, You Can't Hurry Love and Come See About Me. One of the members was Diana Ross.
Jennifer cut her arm during the filming of E23 and is wearing an ace bandage (she was wearing a bandage on her left wrist in 9x20). She doesn't wear a bandage in E24 but instead has a long prominent scar on her left forearm.
When Joey is upset because it is raining he says it is because he wanted to dig a hole. This is in reference to 4x01 when Joey, Monica and Chandler were on the beach and Joey dug a big hole in the sand that Chandler and Monica had to use for Chandler to pee on her to help with a jellyfish sting.
"See this scar? That's from Pictionary!" is in reference to the "Pictionary incident" mentioned in 1x18 when Monica threw a plate out of anger.
When Joey and Rachel get name tags to get into a convention, Rachel wears the name tag Kate Miller, which was the name of the actress Joey was in love with in S3.
Since Aisha Tyler (Charlie) and David are almost the same height at around 6 ft, David had to use small lifts in his shoes to make him taller.
Matthew Perry was actually a nationally ranked tennis player in Canada at the age of 13.
Matt LeBlanc received his second Emmy nomination of the series for these episodes.
Goofs/continuity errors: When Mike and Monica are playing ping pong, after the first point is played Mike claims that if either player touches the table with their non racket bearing hand, he or she forfeits the point. However for the final point of the second game Mike clearly puts his hand on the table before hitting the game winning shot. By his rules Monica should be awarded the point and, knowing her, she would have mentioned it.
When Joey says he's as curious as George, Rachel seems to not know who he's talking about but in one of the episodes with Ross's monkey she had a Curious George doll.
During Ross' keynote speech, he refers to the then recently discovered dinosaur Giganotosaurus as a herbivore, but Giganotosaurus is actually one of the largest known terrestrial carnivores of all time.
In E23 after Chandler accidentally deletes Ross' speech & goes in for a kiss and Ross tell him to get out, David can be seen trying not to laugh 😂

The Rachel Joey thing is so bad in the writing because they literally have to bring Rachel down to Joey's level just to justify it. Seriously this is the worst decision the writers could make because it's manufactured drama. Friends writers are wonderful but even they have some real stupid ideas

I know a lot of fans think Phoebe should have ended up with David, but I personally think that Mike is a better match for her. I think Phoebe needs someone who is more assertive than David. She seems to like men who are passionate and can match her energy.

The joke was ana kornackova, she was a famous tennis player back in the early 2000's and in the DVD commentary the creators of the show, david crane, marta Kaufman and kevin bright debated wether 10-20 years from then (2004) people would know who she was and if the joke would land and its safe to say for a solid ten years after the show ended that joke absolutely landed but apparently in 2024 (20 years later) it no longer does lol

The supremes were an african american trio of Motown singing women group that were very successful back in the 70s, of the many things they were known for was their beautiful voluptuous hair, hence pheobes joke about monicas hair being so humid lol
