Some historical context for some kdramas related to this time period: Grand Queen Dowager is Queen Sunwon. And Queen Dowager is Queen Sinjeong. (their wiki entries) Last 5 kings of Joseon: 1800 King Sunjo - Married to Queen Sunwon (Love in the Moonlight) 1834 King Heonjong - Puppet king under the regency of Queen Sunwon 1849 King Cheoljong (Mr Queen) 1863 King/Emperor Gojong (Mr Sunshine) 1907 Emperor Sunjong 1910 Annexation of Korea by Japan In the kdrama "Love in the Moonlight" the ML is the crown prince played by Park Bo-Gum (Reply 1988). His mother was Queen Sunwon. His wife was Queen Sinjeong. And his son was King Heonjong. In the kdrama "Mr. Sunshine" the Emperor is Gojang. The Andong Kims are in this kdrama too, but the characters are fictional and not just re-imagined as in Mr Queen. The FL in Mr Sunshine is played by the maid in the Handmaiden. I think you will find the time period in Mr Sunshine pretty interesting. So I hope you get to watch it one day.
