Naked and Alone

Howdy, folks! I don't know about y'all, but I'm a big fan of those survival shows on TV. When the new season of Alone hit Netflix a few weeks back, I hit on the attached idea for a story. It's inspired primarily by Alone and Naked and Afraid, as the title suggests. We have our protagonist, Cody Swain, recording and narrating her struggles to stay alive deep in the uncharted wilderness, contemplating what she's willing to do to win the grand prize (not that grand prize), and where lines need to be drawn.

Heads up, though: this is a rare departure from the mc genre. It's very adjacent, but if that's a sticking point for anybody I wanted to forewarn. Coercion, blackmail, fin-dom, degradation, humiliation... lots of good stuff in here, but all of it of the chick's own free will, at least by the standards we're accustomed to in these parts.

Somehow I thought I was going to make this short and hot, despite deriving inspiration from watching a show about people freezing to death for months at a time. So we deviated from expectations a bit.

Unrelated, we're nearing the end of Last Woman Kneeling! If you were holding out because you didn't recognize some of the less well known characters in the early days, rest assured, it's pretty much the hits at this point. And some freaking upsets like you wouldn't believe, too. Anyway, feel free to vote (until midnight tonight, it's Northside's own Miss C vs. GHS's Abbie Stern!) or just check the bracket, or join some cool folks to talk about it with on my discord.

More to come!

This was an interesting read. I've never watched the shows this was inspired by, and I'm not really a reality TV guy to begin with. The, like, *genre* of this piece was brand new to me. Added to that, as noted, not really an MC story? There's coercion and role-playing and control, but it's all fairly mundane in its origins. But, as always, the writing's just really good? All the way through? With an ending that is ENORMOUSLY clever? Not really a story that's hitting my buttons, and 44 pages took me a little longer to get through than I'd've thought, but a really well-written short story that kept my attention from front to back.
