The RA, Ch. 7
Added 2022-07-06 04:27:20 +0000 UTCHey folks! I'm on vacation this week for my week o' D&D (like the thing from Gamemaster's Screen, if you read it - art imitates life). Still, I don't sleep in as much as my buddies do and apparently writing more The RA is my way of coping with being stuffed in a condo with no privacy for a week. :) More slow burn college residence hall (don't call it a dorm, we hate that) community building (don't call it harem recruitment, we hate that) coming your way!

I think it works in the same ways as the many Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul montages of people doing their jobs: it lets us feel like Spencer is putting effort into his occupation, that the things he cares about are things we should also care about. The attention to detail isn't just important for third act twists or whatever; it's important to create a mental framework of Spencer's emotional investment in this burgeoning community/harem.

2022-07-06 22:34:02 +0000 UTCIt's definitely something I'll be turning a critical eye to when revision time comes, is to what extent are job expectations over-explained, procedures over (under...?) elaborated. But I figure it's one of those jobs that the average bloke doesn't know much about, except maybe from adjacency in college. When you go from broad strokes stuff - confronting rule breakages - to the more high-minded conceptual shit (community building and educational programming), it feels obligatory to give some explanation as to Why? Especially like you said for someone like Spencer who's pretty much a true believer. But we'll see! Lots of time before I need to get serious about filters.

2022-07-06 22:25:01 +0000 UTCSorry to start a discussion about the sexy goings-on at Higgins 3 with a note about tax law (not my training!), but that sort of unsexy minutiae, and its juxtaposition with sexy goings-on is what I like the best about The RA? Here's a chapter that features mass toplessness and some more coy flirting with our oblivious title character, but what makes it all work is Spencer's dedication to both the spirit and letter of his job. It's him wanting to create a welcoming space for all of the women under his care, but with the endless details of what his training dictates. Like, the mixture of checklists and horniness is really this story's sweet spot. Great work! Enjoy your holiday!
