It's the little details you capture that really help give a picture that extra impact, and the eyes definitely do the rest of the work of setting that mood; the emotion in them, the fear and helplessness, is so well done. The pose really helps accent his vulnerability, and those colors are so pretty while helping him stand out so well from the background. Beautifully done.
