It's an educated guess, my only *real* evidence is that an infected can literally burst into flames, reacts positively to electricity, and their speech bubbles being weirdly electronic looking.

I love the fact there's a sense of panic and confusion as well as she attempts to fight off these intelligent infected. Love the hint you're dropping here, too, and how you're continuing to move the plot forwards.
