The director said he purposely made it look animated because he wanted to keep the comic or anime vibe in the drama. I didn't read the webtoon, but I read somewhere that the reason they didn't show the person who taught Gamin how to fight (his uncle) is because there's another webtoon related to Study Group called Hanlim Gym, where the uncle is the main character there. So, they probably didn't want to spoil the readers, or maybe they plan to adapt that webtoon into a drama too in the future.
