Yes, he has pressures on him left and right and yes he's being controlled, but he has free will and he has the power to stop a lot of this shit and he doesn't cause he's greedy and feels nothing. Now.....knowing what I know of the BU, I understand there are other things in play regarding him buuuuuut he drives me crazy. Also, don't forget there are usually short scenes that play out after the episode title screen at the end of every episode. 😅
