The show is so well done and the world building is exquisite. I'm so glad you like the show! Can't wait to see your next reactions. Btw, the actress who plays Becca, Butcher's wife (Shantel VanSanten), you probably know her from One Tree Hill. She also stars in the great show For All Mankind, which is definitely worth a watch too.

They were playing kind of coy in the first few episodes with him, but I felt like this episode was his coming out as the central villain and the worst of the Seven. Superman's most iconic feat that most people think of immediately is most likely saving some kind of aircraft, so I think it's appropriate that Homelander's most infamous non-save was an airplane. You're right that the passengers had a better chance of survival with the hijackers. The fact that the pilot was kept alive until Homelander and Maeve got there suggests that the plan was to land and then negotiate for the hostages' freedom. The guy saw Homelander and knew it was over and shot the pilot, and then Homelander made it even worse by lasering the control panel and making the plane completely unflyable. This was also the episode where the protagonist team really starts forming. The Spice Girls speech is one of the most memorable monologues for me. I like that they explored Deep's insecurities and the fact that everyone around him seems to consider him a joke. It doesn't excuse what he did to Annie, but it does connect that he abuses what little power he has as a tenured member of the Seven to try to feel important. Giving him a soft spot for sealife was almost endearing, but of course they had to make it ridiculous by establishing that he was going to hook up with a dolphin lmao. This show has a lot of insane recurring gags like that. Sometimes they're funny, and other times I think they take away a little bit from the storytelling which is otherwise REALLY good.
