The Boys S01 Ep 01- FULL REACTION

....!!!!???

You HAVE to do the Matrix.

Duane Olson

It's a fantastic show. I'm also not the biggest fan of superhero stuff. But I absolutely LOVE The Boys.

Burrit0

I'm pretty ambivalent to super hero stuff. Some I like. I love all the Spider Man iterations, LOVED the Dark Knight series (and surprisingly the Robert Pattison Batman also, that was such a cool take), and the original Christopher Reeve Superman movies (which I think you'd quite enjoy! They are just fun, the John Williams theme: iconic.) I couldn't get into the Boys when it first aired and so am interested to see how I feel about it watching it with you.

Keeley Thurman

You haven't seen The Matrix??? Sophie... Homie you gotta watch it!!!

Daniel

Are you ready for this?

Michael Instone

I am watching the boys also for the first time with you. I didn't know what to expect, but I agree with you. it's very an interesting concept.

Oummie

Butcher (Karl Urban) is Éomer in Lord of the Rings, though he might be more recognizable from other things. Éomer is one of the Rider's of Rohan.

Cameron

I think it's supposed to give you the ick, so much of this show makes me uncomfortable... it's the worst of real life mixed with superheroes

Cameron

How do we think she’ll feel about Frenchie? Lol

Dev pryot

I love the description: "....!!!!???" :D Been through the same - expecting some "normal" super hero stuff. Then shit went down haha. :D

ascarGames

It’s really a dark comedy this one. And it only gets weirder from here. But it’s a great show.

Ricardo B,

bRo. Haven't seen the reaction yet but I'm so down for this.

I'm glad you're reacting to this! One of my recent favorite shows. I can see it being jarring if it's the first superhero thing you've watched in a long time, but you've already gotten what the show is doing on first watch. The Boys universe has no actual connection to DC or Marvel, but there are established superheroes who some of them are clearly based off of in abilities and presentation. Homelander/Superman, Queen Maeve/Wonder Woman, A-Train/The Flash, The Deep/Aqua Man. The Seven is pretty much a corrupt version of the Justice League, etc. Interesting sidenote, Jack Quaid (Hughie) is the voice of Superman on the My Adventures with Superman animated series, and auditioned to play him in the new live action movie as well.

This is my first time watching The Boys too sofie. But I have seen some eps from other reactors, so we're in for a ride😭

dai

I have only ever watched the first episode of this show. It gives me the ick. I hated it. So nope. Not for me. Good luck though.🫣😅

To answer your questions at the beginning: Marvel and DC are by far the two biggest comic book publishers, they (and their fans) have a pretty big rivalry, so they don't share any characters. They both used to sell the movie rights to several different movie studios, until Marvel founded Marvel Studios to produce their own movies and create the MCU, starting with Iron Man in 2008. DC did the same in 2016. The Marvel movies are generally considered to be a bit more light-hearted, whereas the DC movies are often a bit darker and more grown-up. (But of course, there are always exceptions.) Another difference is that the MCU has been far more successful than the DCEU, both financially and in telling consistent interwoven stories without a lot of continuity errors. Although some The Boys characters are heavily inspired by DC characters, you don't need any knowledge about any comics or movies to understand and enjoy this show, so you don't have to worry about that at all. 😊

Kevin Karst

I think you have to get out of the DC and Marvel mindset. This show is not connected to either universe

Asaunte

Yes, why would we make her watch an amazing, universally beloved show? It's such a mystery.

Kevin Karst

This is the best pilot episode of any show I've ever seen, I was instantly hooked on the show when I watched it. Most characters of The Seven are heavily inspired by the DC comics Justice League characters (or at least their powers are), to a degree that I'm surprised this is even legal. I guess it's because they're rather morally dubious parodies than faithful copies of the DC characters. I also find it interesting that they specifically chose DC and not Marvel characters, I have no idea why though. Homelander is basically Superman (the most powerful one, powers of flying and laser eyes), Queen Maeve is Wonder Woman (super strong, very similar costume and general look), A-Train is The Flash (superspeed), The Deep is Aquaman (strong swimmer, can talk to sea creatures), Black Noir is Batman (dark, brooding, secretive). There are probably a lot more, I'm not a comic book expert, these are just the more obvious ones. Also, I really hope you're gonna watch the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) movies one day, or some DC movies as well, I'm sure you would love them. 😊

Kevin Karst

Why? why would you want her to watch The Boys why?

Antonio

Within the first few minutes here, my ears are buzzing as I realize Sofie hasn't reacted the MCU films. 😱 Those reactions would be huge. Also, tossing out the suggestion to react to the BBC Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch.

Easter

Glad you’re starting this show The one who plays Hughie is in the Hunger Games

Lucas Cespedes

This show is really great. Looking forward to your future reactions.

Nick

Ohhh yes, I clicked the link so fast! Your reactions to Buffy and Breaking Bad were absolutely top tier and I can't wait to see what you think about this absolutely insane show. So excited!
