It's usually a gamble with reactors, and I've lost respect for reactors I had previously liked because of how harsh and unforgiving they were to her character. But I wasn't worried about it with you. 2025-07-22 00:23:32 +0000 UTCFirst watched it when I was young, and I didn't understand Jenny's character. But on later viewings, she is the most tragic element. It's almost like Forest has floated like the feather, but Jenny has been dragged down most of her life by her past, coerced by her traumas towards those damaging paths. A catastrophe that Lt.Dan avoids because of his contact with Forest. Just a beautiful movie. And lovely reaction as always.

Understanding that she is broken, and when she says, "You don't know what love is," it's because she, herself, doesn't. (The other test is at the end when he asks if Little Forest is smart. If your heart doesn't break... OMG)

There are a lot of people who dislike or criticize Jenny, and I'm always glad to see someone react who understands her; how she's self-destructive and running away from Forrest is another self-destructive act. All three of the major characters in the film (Forrest, Lt. Dan, and Jenny) had challenges to overcome, but Jenny's wounds were all internal, and so people tend to miss what she achieved. They often don't forgive her for running away - but when you think of that tiny little girl and consider what happened to her, it's gut-wrenching - she only ever wanted to get away. All she ever knew how to do was run, and that's why she told Forrest to do the same.

2025-07-21 05:31:09 +0000 UTCOne of Tom Hanks' most iconic movies with a great soundtrack to boot. It's hard not to fall in love with this one. It's interesting that the theme of birds, sparked by young Jenny's prayer, comes up several times in the film. The part where she climes onto that ledge and almost falls has "Freebird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd playing in the background. It's easy to criticize Jenny for the way she treated Forrest, but she had a tough life. Robin Wright, who plays Jenny, also played Buttercup in The Princess Bride. Also, this is going a ways back for your channel, but Sam Anderson, who played the principal at the beginning of the movie, also played Holland Manners in Angel. Lilah and Lindsay's boss who died in the wine cellar.
