Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire /Movie Series Reaction

This movie definitely marks the end of the more child friendly era and the start of something much darker.

Link to the missing scene:

There's a missing scene in the reaction at 2:08:36 mark. Adding it to the video will be troublesome as I have to delete the video, add the scene in the editing software and then upload the video again which takes forever so I will just put a link here to the scene:

So for the dragon bit, the 3 others champion did that: - Victor blinded the dragon - Fleur put it asleep - Cedric transformed a rock into a dog, using it as a bait. Then they rushed for the egg.

2:42:16 Technically, Wormtail killed Cedric. But who is keeping track?

When I read the books for the first time and got to this one, I hadn't seen this movie yet. Only the first 3. I was so confused when I started reading this book because it was talking about Frank and how he was an old gardener that lived on this old property. It's such an interesting way to start the 4th book. This also marks the point when they started having to rush the story by cutting bits out. The book has SO much more detail. Especially about the beginning. 6:03 Recognized him IMMEDIATELY! LOL! 10:00 I am so sad they didn't include Bagman and his betting the Weasley twins. 12:44 In the book the Death Eaters are quite literally torturing muggles as they parade around causing destruction. 14:31 They also cut out Winky. And a bunch of stuff. The book is so superior in this instance. Most of this movie is faithful, though. So I can forgive it. 14:50 His scar hurts him when Voldemort is feeling a very powerful emotion. Usually anger or hate. 15:00 Also, the biggest scandal is not setting up Priori Incantatum. They used this spell to check Harry's wand's previous cast spells to find out if his wand was the one that cast Morsmordre. 16:55 Oh God. Cho, I forgot about her. They left out a scene with them in the book for I think obvious reasons. It would've been TOO much. Cho's depiction is alright. 19:21 I love how Filch runs in! It's incredibly funny and my family will run like this from time to time. 20:51 For context for why they are behaving like...this. Um, most of them are either Veela or half Veela. Veela make men literally fall head over heels to impress. In the book Ron nearly jumps out of the stands when the Veela come out onto the field for the halftime show. 22:36 In the book she says Dumblyy-dore EXACTLY like that! I am so glad they kept that in! 24:10 You are correct madam 25:00 They have a right to be mad. If you are 13 to 16 at this point you will not only not the chance this time, but you won't the chance next time because the tri-wizard tournament only happens every 5 years. And it hasn't been done in over a hundred at this point. 12 year olds may get another chance. But 11 year olds most likely won't. 28:49 The actor for Moody did so well. So extra and yet he is intimidating, mysterious, and oddly seemingly compassionate (on occasion.) Being that this isn't the real Mad-eye Moody, it poses a real challenge for the actor next time Moody comes around. I wanna throw in here that while the position is cursed, Rowling didn't write the same character every time or fall into the trap of each one being thrown from the position the same way. Each is done in a very interesting and unique way. Especially Lupin and Moody. 31:00 There is a very sad reason that Neville knew this curse and is so effected by it. Neville's parents were tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange using the Cruciatus curse. They would not give her the information she wanted and they lost their minds from her using that curse on them. They are currently in St Mungo's I believe is the place. And in book five you see Neville visiting them. 37:42 They left something important out. When you write your name on the piece of paper you are supposed to write your school, too. The person who put Harry's name in, put the name of a made up school down. The cup determined that there was 4 schools competing in this year's triwizard tournament. Probably with some really powerful confundus charms. 40:35 Here it is. The line that was so poorly translated from the book, it HAD to be done on purpose. "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore asked calmly. CALMLY!!! 44:15 Awe yes, the pensieve. A very important piece of Wizarding magic. For lack of a better term. A way to store memories in a place where they don't trouble you. But also a place to look through them better. 46:36 Rita Skeeter is a very creepy character. And very scummy. The bit in the broom closet is....interesting. 49:50 This is an interesting way to use Floo Powder. Haha! 55:16 This line is hilarious! 59:11 Except he did make sure Harry found out. lol. In a roundabout way. 1:00:46 I absolutely love this part! In the book it's even better because "Moody" actually smacks him against the stone path over and over. But it's still awesome to see it happen to Draco. My family quotes the exchange between "Moody" and McGonagall all the time, too. 1:09:20 They really upped the action from the book. In the book I don't believe they ever left the arena. At least not as far as the castle. 1:13:20 It's difficult for him because the challenges were set up with the fact in mind that they were going to be 17 year old witches and/or wizards who were up to the task. Harry only has 3 years of magical training. Thus, it is the most challenging for him. 1:14:47 Well, that's not entirely true. Everything in the first three movies that almost killed Harry were as a direct result of Voldemort. (Minus Dobby's attempts to get Harry to leave Hogwarts.) Oh and is this movie, too I just realized. Because Voldemort needed Harry to be in the Triwizard tournament so he could use Harry's blood to be rebirthed... That is way weirder when I put it into simpler terms. 1:22:52 - 1:24:32 I love this bit of Snape! He is so done with these two not focusing on the assignment. 1:26:50 One gripe. These are the Patil twins. Padma Patil is in Ravenclaw. She should not be in the Gryffindor common room. Parvati Patil is, in fact, in Gryffindor, however, if she wants to spend time with her sister they'd have to do it anywhere but the Gryffindor and Ravenclaw common rooms. Other houses aren't allowed in the other common rooms. Regardless of relation. 1:31:44 I hate every single thing about this song! WHY is it in Harry Potter!!!!??!?!? 1:40:17 I love Myrtle! She loves messing with Harry now! 1:43:18 In the book, it's Dobby who gives Harry Gillyweed. But it was set up well to be Neville in the movie. And Dobby's role in the book is not necessary in the movie because they cut house elves out all together. Which is a shame. But I get why they did this and can accept they did it with the integrity of the book in mind. 1:44:48 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I love that you have no idea! 1:50:47 Actually, no. The task wasn't over yet. They would've gotten Fleur's sister after Harry had resurfaced. That is, if Harry hadn't freed her as well. Honestly, that's just common sense. Dumbledore would not put students in direct harm like THAT! Well, not without good reason, anyway. 1:51:25 Also, I have a gripe with this. They don't learn non-verbal spells until year 6, I believe. If not, I know it's not in this year. He wouldn't know how to do this. 1:54:08 This is interesting upon re-watch. No one would have guessed the meaning of this moment on their first watch. Unless you've read the books that is. It's very clever. 2:00:40 This is the REAL Moody! Which is confusing! But this is the first time we see the real one in this film. 2:03:23 Real Moody. One of the best Aurors out there! 2:03:44 I HATE THIS!!!! Why did they give him such an OBVIOUS mannerism like a weird tongue flick. It could've been something like always raising one eyebrow. Or blinking too fast on occasion. Or even exhaling and blowing his hair upward sometimes. ANYTHING would've been more subtle and less weird than a TONGUE FLICK!!! Sorry for ranting. This has always bothered me. And seeing you make the connection here lets me know that it was too much! In the clip that was missing, I am always so sad when I see Amos standing with his son like that. It's the last time he will see is son alive before he goes into the maze. 2:38 into the missing clip. I CAN'T!!! OMG!!!! 2:09:30 Ok, so they changed a CRAP ton about this maze. I won't go into all the details, but there are two that are worth mentioning. The Sphinx. Harry encounters a Sphinx and has to answer riddles. The second is Blast ended skrewts. Hagrid's care of Magical creatures class focuses on them and the class helps Hagrid raise them throughout the year. During this task, they are roaming the maze. There are more changes, but those are the important ones. 2:13:03 They make Expelliarmus out to be a stunning spell in these movies. It's not. Stupefy is. Expelliarmus is a disarming spell. This has to be the most unintentionally ironic scene in the whole movie series. Cedric casts a disarming spell at Krum, which hits him. Then, Cedric runs towards the now stunned Krum and kicks his wand out of his hand... Gotta love inconsistencies with the books when they are tiny and mildly infuriating. 2:13:46 PAIN! Harry is so good! But it causes Cedric to come with him. Where Voldemort only wanted Harry to go. Cedric's character is so tragic. 2:15:00 NOOOO! Not together!!! HARRY!!!! NOOOO! 2:17:06 Yes, if Harry had let the plant "get" Cedric, then Cedric would've been tucked nice and safely under the hedges until retrieved, most likely by Dumbledore. Same "fate" as Fleur and tbh, probably Krum. 2:19:05 It is impossible to know at this point in book or movie the importance of Voldemort doing THIS. If he had used any other's blood, it would have been a very different 7th book and movie. 2:26:15 He got what he thought he needed from Harry's blood. Now he can touch Harry. Meaning he can hurt him. 2:27:18 Another slight inconsistency. When you cast Crucio it causes pain until you stop focusing on casting the spell. You don't say it again to stop casting it. Same with most other spells, honestly. 2:28:32 This scene is so good!!! It is one of the best moments adapted from book to film! And it is so cool to see brought to life! I will always be in awe of this moment! 2:30:22 Everyone's response to this!! It's so good! 2:31:56 The fact that the whole crowd was sitting there waiting for the champion to reappear in the center, making them think that they had somehow both won. It's just too much! 2:33:26 Whoever is the actor for Cedric's dad is incredible! I have trouble watching this scene because his crying is so piercing! Jeff Rawle. I had to look it up! 2:33:57 If there wasn't chaos, Dumbledore would never have let "Moody" take Harry. He told Harry to stay put.

Hermione scream killed me😂😂😂😂😂she is so precious when it happens

Zoé Turcotte

Its was easier for the movie but the other schools’are not uni sex

Laure

I love that movie (except for the problematic age gap fow a few couples)

Laure

You know the instant death spell? In that case you missed that Malfoy's father tried to use that spell on Harry and was only stopped by Dobby in the second movie. That's a crazy detail which I missed for 20 years.

Tom

Love your HP reactions so much Sofie. Darling whatever you react to you give your whole to it its always amazing to watch you do these reactions be it a movie or series.I hope you do more movie reactions too :)

Andrea Dcosta

“Did you put your name into the Goblet of Fire, Harry?’ Dumbledore asked calmly.”🤣

HollieJolly

Harry and Hermione >>>>> Ron and Hermione

juliet

You quoted something from the book during the graveyard duel. In the books, Harry resolved to die standing up to Voldemort just like James, his father did.

Elisabeth Hutchinson

Gorgeous, thanks Sofie. It is similar to my everyday favorite, Merit lipstick in Baby. <3

Gillian

I used Maybelline superstay vinyl ink 120 punchy.

safae mokadem

I love this one and your reaction just adds so much richness to the re-watch. Also Sofie, I would love to know what lipstick you're wearing. I noticed it in the last Breaking Bad reaction too and it is absolutely perfect for your skin tone and I'm hoping it might add some whimsy to my day. Thanks again for your reactions--they are well worth the price of entry. :)

Gillian

Thank you 🥰🥰

safae mokadem

Ive watched this movie like 1000 times but seeing ur reaction to cedrics death brought it all back to me when I saw it for the first time. Im crying with you!!!😢💔 It just so sad...😭 Thank you for such a genuine and emotional reaction, the reason im a patreon to begin with❤️

Mikaela Eriksson

I just pulled out my dusty copy of GOF and re-read it to confirm (😅) - he could see and hear them, yes. “She walked close to Harry, looking down at him, and she spoke in the same distant, echoing voice as the others, but quietly, so that Voldemort, his face now livid with fear as his victims prowled around him, could not hear.” GOF, p 667

Shannon

I love the movies for what they are.. But starting w./ this one in particular, they really are the books captured from 1000 feet away. It doesn't even begin to capture the richness in the storytelling. Its still enjoyable and pretty well done, but its impossible to fit a near 800 page book in a 2 hr film.

Ietseatapples

I think the color is great it suits you well and your hair it's hydrated and voluminous. 🥰

Enzo Reis

I knew this, but I was always curious because Voldemort didn't react to those spirits so far I noticed. Can only Harry see them? Or can they see them both?

Thomas

I could be wrong about this (someone correct, me if I am) but I think the students don't know the exact details of what Harry does in book 1-3, they know he did something in the chamber of secrets but I think the exact details are not known to most people besides Ron and Hermione of course and close friends in his own house like Ginny, Neville etc... When Cedric is selected as Hogwarts champion it is a huge moment for Hufflepuff as its always between Gryffindor and Slytherin who get the spotlight so when Harry is selected a lot of people think that Harry is trying to take that moment from them and make it about him. Pretty messed up when you realise Barty was showing Neville the Cruciatus curse because he was the one (alongside another) who tortured his parents. I do enjoy when they show us glimpses of the ministry to make us realise that while Dumbledore is powerful he still has to answer to the ministry for example the dementors being on school grounds last year or continuing the tournament despite the death of Barty. Everything Igor did was just to ensure that Krum won. Great reaction looking forward to more I love that you never forget that all these kids are still 14 years old.

Joel Pieters (SN7)

In all the previous reactions after watching them (and this one) I have thought about everything I would like to tell Sophie about what appears in the books and not in the movies, but in all of them you have done it brilliantly! Nice esme. I love Harry Potter movies, but I absolutely adore the books! In all the movies when I saw them in the cinema at the time, I came out happy and furious at the same time thinking about everything they left behind. With time, you understand that not everything can come out, but even now some scenes still bother me. In this particular movie the ending without Sirius appearing in Dumbledore's office, perhaps absurd, but it shows how much Sirius loves Harry and what he risks by appearing at Hogwarts. But… you can't have everything.

Raquel

That's very interesting.

safae mokadem

Amos Diggory’s (Cedric’s dad) actor really must have been like, “I’ve only got five lines and I’m gonna make ‘em COUNT.” 😭 And that’s the HAPPY half of the franchise. Can’t wait for five! 😅

Shannon

He was so calm, wdym? 🤣

Shannon

I thought to myself, “man, her hair looks really good” at least three separate times during this reaction, if that helps. 😅🔥

Shannon

One thing they didn't explain so well in the movie is why Cedric and Harry's parents appeared. The "Priori Incantatem" moment (when the wands connected) happened because Harry and Voldemort's wands have the same cores: they contain feathers from the same phoenix. (This was revealed in the first movie; you may recall Mr. Ollivander, the wandmaker, saying to Harry that "It's curious that you should be destined for this wand, when its brother [Voldemort's wand] gave you that scar.") Wands remember the spells they cast, sort of like browser history. When two wands with the same cores clash, "Priori Incantatem" happens, and the wands start spitting "echoes" of the last spells they cast. If the spell was Avada Kedavra, then echoes of the person killed will spill out of the wand as well. That's why Harry saw Cedric, the dead caretaker, and his parents.

Noah Goldman

thank you and i'm so glad i could help!! always happy to see more people joining the fandom and learning about the books :)

esme

Those shots of Cedric's father at the end are heartbreaking.

Camelot VFX

Thank you! It was only small but appreciate the extra link to it. 💜💜💜 (And I see Detective Sofie was on the case in these missing 3 mins, so it was worth putting it up there, lol. 😜)

Sarah_M

You know the progression from childhood adventure series towards dark adult plotlines is just masterful. I was 12 years old when the first movie came out, so the way the movies aged with me was just such a magical experience. I don't know of any other series that has ever done this, period. It's impressive and such a unique thing to do. It really captivated a whole generation during its time.

Sarah_M

Actually Hermione is like Harry's older sister.

Killuanatsume

Thank you for the missing scene.

Maurice

Ooof. God I am SO B B I N G 😭. This movie just sucker punches me right in the feels every single time. Also, not Sofie out here figuring out the majority of the plot as she watched (gotta love pause & rewind option, it helps a ton!) Buckle in girl. Shit just got real. 💀

Sarah_M

Check the description.

safae mokadem

Oh really, I did not like the color on me when I first dyed my hair 😅

safae mokadem

you always have the best summaries for the harry potter movies 💓and this helps me as well since I'm also new to harry potter, so thanks

dai

as always this reaction was perfect!! thank you so much for bringing it to us, it was absolutely worth the wait :) the world cup is in the books- the irish win but the bulgarians catch the snitch. the irish were winning by over 150 points and were about to catch the snitch, so in order to keep the bulgarians from losing by over 300 points, krum catches the snitch and makes it a less egregious loss. it's definitely not safe to put sirius' name on the letter- in the books harry addresses all his letters to sirius to 'snuffles' then just informs hedwig who it's actually going to. both durmstrang or baubatons are co-ed in the books- makes more sense to me. if there aren't a ton of magic schools you wouldn't want to only accept one gender and make it harder for people to go to schools close to them harry gives as good as he gets with malfoy in the books (maybe even gives better than he gets), one of my favorite insults of harry's is "malfoy, that look your mom had on her face at the world cup? like she had dung under her nose? does she always look like that or was it just because you were with her?" the dragon stays chained the whole time in the books- it would be very out of character for dumbledore and mcgonagall to just do nothing while harry is chased all over creation by a dragon ron asked fleur out in that strange way because she's part veela- which is kind of like a land siren. they did ron so dirty by making it seem like he just did that for no reason and not because he was under a spell essentially none of the people in the black lake were actually in danger- harry is pretty pissed at himself when he gets to the surface and realizes that he would've come in first if he didn't draw such a ridiculous conclusion about the safety of the people down there. the merpeople are also friends with dumbeldore, so they wouldn't have actually hurt any of the contestants or hostages. they're just down there to inform dumbledore what happened underwater and keep the contestants from rescuing more than one hostage. (this is how dumbledore knows that harry would've finished first had it not been for his determination to rescue more people.) as for the grindylows, they were an obstacle, so they do attack the contestants- but they still wouldn't kill, as we see with fleur. i think if they had managed to get harry at the end there they would've sent him up for magical medical attention, which probably makes drowning pretty harmless. if even we muggles are pretty good at saving those who have drowned i imagine it's extremely easy with magic. if fleur had gotten away from the grindylows herself she would've kept going with the task, which leads me to believe they pushed her to the surface. the crouches have a huge part in the book, as well as their house elf, winky. barty crouch jr was a death eater who participated in torturing neville's parents into insanity. igor karkaroff gave up this information to get off and, rather than barty crouch jr essentially proving his guilt by running off then acting insane when stopped, he maintains his innocence the entire time and barty crouch sr. sends him to azkaban anyway. eventually, when mrs. crouch is ill and dying, she manages to convince crouch sr to help her help crouch jr escape. they polyjuice mrs. crouch to look like crouch jr and switch him out in the prison. she dies there and is buried in her son's body, so crouch jr is presumed dead. (this is why nobody knows he escaped azkaban and think sirius is the only one who's ever managed) crouch sr keeps his son locked up in his home under the imperious curse. winky, their house elf, comes to quite like crouch jr and feel bad for him. eventually she manages to convince crouch sr to let crouch jr attend the quidditch world cup under an invisibility cloak. what winky doesn't know is that crouch jr is starting to fight his father's imperious curse. at the world cup they end up in the same box as the weasleys and winky is terrified the whole time because she's scared of heights. she keeps closing her eyes and looking away, which gives crouch jr the opportunity to take harry's wand from him. he uses it to summon the dark mark and leaves it lying there barty crouch sr, realizing how bad winky fucked up, fires her, which she's completely distraught about. winky begins working in the school with dobby and the other house elves. apart from outliers like dobby, house elves are extremely loyal and loving to their masters, they hate not working, and consider the idea of being paid to be a HUGE insult, so this is the best that can be done for winky. (dobby is paid though, as he requested a salary from dumbledore to buy socks, which he collects.) dobby is a big part of the book too- he's actually the one who gets the gillyweed for harry, because harry never asked anyone but hermione and ron for help, like moody was expecting when he gave neville the book. anyways, crouch jr goes back and puts the imperious curse on his father so that he'll make sure that harry has to compete in the tournament after his name comes out of the goblet. crouch sr eventually stops showing up and we're told he's ill. he very likely was ill, but it was because he had been trying for so long to fight the control of his son. eventually he turns up on the outskirts of the dark forrest and is acting completely insane. he's going in and out of the curse and even when he's not cursed he's unable to do much to communicate what's happening due to how broken his brain has become from resisting the imperious. he just keeps saying it was his fault and that harry needed to go get dumbledore. harry goes to do just that, unable to bring crouch because he's too agitated, and he's never seen again. it turns out crouch jr caught up with him, killed him, transfigured his body into a single bone, and buried it. creepy i think dumbledore was upset karkaroff was giving names because it meant he'd be freed dumbledore found out crouch jr wasn't the real moody when he found out he took harry into his office. the real moody would have NEVER EVER let harry be apart from dumbledore after what had happened. dumbledore is the wizard voldemort always feared, he's the perfect person to be around. on that note, here's a badass excerpt from the book about dumbledore- "moody was thrown backward onto the office floor. harry, still staring at the place where moody's face had been, saw albus dumbledore, professor snape, and professor mcgonagall looking back at him through the doorway. at that moment, harry fully understood for the first time why people said dumbledore was the only wizard voldemort ever feared. the look upon dumbledore's face as he stared down at the unconscious form of mad-eye moody was more terrible than harry could have ever imagined. there was no benign smile on dumbledore's face, no twinkle in the eyes behind the spectacles. there was cold fury in every line of the ancient face; a sense of power radiated from dumbledore as though he were giving off a burning heat"

esme

Harry Potter and the Emo of Fire more like. So many hormones.

Daphne O'Reilly

Wow, you are very perceptive. I think you're the only reactor I've seen who made the connection between the tongue thing that the imposter Moody was doing, Crouch's son, and immediately deduced they were the same person.

Sharon

I will let you know when it's fixed:

safae mokadem

Loved this one!! Buckle up for the rest SoFie!!!!

Jackkk

Dont worry, no problem. A shame to miss your reaction though🙂

gak9319

Oops, I'm afraid It's gonna take me some time to fix it.

safae mokadem

Also your hair it's gorgeous Sofie!!

Enzo Reis

I think a scene is missing, just before the third challenge😅

gak9319

Yeah... knowing the book, this feels like the first attempt of squeezing "Dune" into a movie.

Julia68yt

Fun fact: Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy, is also the voice of Admiral Zhao in ATLA.

Andrew

“Dumbledore said calmly.”

TalbertInc

One of my favourites of the movies but a shame they left so much out from the book which is my definite favourite. I get the book is huge and there are so many little stories that you couldn't fit them all in but still a shame

Razzer95

SoFie finally discovers that Harry Potter's plotline is no joke ... buckle up :X

Julia68yt

It's my favorite it's like the darkness of the third one combined with the raw adventurousness of the second one. 🥺✨

Enzo Reis

Yeah we have definitely entered into darker territory. Which I prefer tbh

Asaunte

Next one is my favorite out of the movies 💜
