I also wanted to add, it's amazing how far we've come since the Season 3 finale. In the S3 finale, Walt was the hero who rescued Jesse by killing two drug dealers, and Mike was the bad guy about to kill Walt. Now it's Season 5 and Walt is the bad guy, killing a sympathetic Mike. We also have to remember that very little time, in the Breaking Bad universe, has passed (the first five seasons take place over the span of a year, as evidenced by Walter turning 50 in the first episode and turning 51 in Season 5.) So from Walt's perspective, Mike is a guy who was about to kill him only a few months prior. I think this makes it a lot easier to understand Walt's disdain for Mike and how quickly he's able to shoot him. Walt is indeed "a bad guy", and the ending does paint him in a negative light, but at the same time, I can sort of understand his actions. Why should Walt care about the safety and well-being of a guy who nearly executed him a few months ago?

I could not be more excited to see your reactions to the next nine episodes. Ooooh boy. 🍿

I was looking forward to this episode because it's excellent, but also dreading it because it means Mike (one of my favorite characters) will no longer be in the show. Some interesting trivia about the character: - Mike first appeared in the Season 2 finale to help Jesse clean up after the death of Jane, but originally, this was supposed to be Saul. However, the actor who plays Saul was doing a guest spot on How I Met Your Mother and was unavailable, so the writers created the character of Mike to take on that job instead. - The character of Mike was only supposed to be in that one episode (the S2 finale), but the creators liked him so much that they kept bringing him back until he became a full-time cast member. Credit to Jonathan Banks as an actor for taking a small role and doing such an excellent job that they made him a regular character.

I think the last scene is there to really hit home how much of a sad, pathetic little man Walt is beneath the bravado he displayed in the opening scene. This enormous ego he's developed is shattered so completely by just a few words from Mike, and he can't handle it at all. His confidence isn't real. He's weak and he's left a trail of destruction in his need to prove to himself and the world that he isn't.
