Good point. We already saw Gus manipulate the Salamanca twins into a confrontation with Hank earlier that season, so it would make sense for Gus to also set-up that scenario for Jesse to get killed by the drug dealers (which would have surely happened if Walt didn't intervene.)

Yes, but also Gus is a master of manipulation and reading people, he may have valued getting Gale back in the lab more than those two drug dealers, or anticipated that the dealers would have won in any dispute. So could have given the order off camera knowing fine well it'd lead to him being able to dispose of Jesse in an indirect way, and get Gale back learning off Walt in the lab, as he'd still be concerned about Walt's health long term if not planning on killing him. But yeah it's for sure no evidence he ordered the death of kids at any point.

About Gus being okay with killing kids: Gus threatened Walter's children, but do we know if he would've actually done it, or was he just bluffing to get Walter to fall in line? In Season 3, Andrea's 12-year-old brother was killed by the drug dealers who worked for Gus, but we never actually saw Gus give the order. Is it possible the drug dealers acted on their own accord? It seemed a little sloppy for Gus to order a hit on a kid like that, especially since he knew it would turn Jesse against him, and I think Gus would be too smart to do something like that. It seems more likely the drug dealers rashly did it without asking permission. Ultimately, I guess it doesn't matter since Gus is no longer in the picture, but I thought it was interesting to think about nonetheless.

I feel like Tod presents a good example of how and why people are sometimes shocked to find out someone is a sociopath in real life. I cracked up at "Jesse suddenly gains 50 IQ points." I think the time he spent with Gus and Mike last season where they were trying to build his confidence so he could replace Walt had an effect on him. People treating you like you have worth and are capable really does make a difference.
