The benevolent dictator idea has been debated for a long time. Surely people wouldn't mind being dominated by a truly wise and good person that cares about their prosperity and happiness. Usually the rebuttal is that no such person exists, or at least wouldn't exist forever, therefore democracy and republics are preferable. However, the freedom point is most important. Consider that removing the freedom of self-determination from thinking adults is fundamentally an evil thing, and that's necessary for the benevolent dictator to impose his will. Even IF he could do it without genocide, it wouldn't be right. Sozin can't honestly see himself as a benevolent dictator because he knew he'd have to take away the other nations' self-determination, which is evil, regardless of taking away their existing cultures. Spreading their culture of prosperity to replace other cultures is less of an issue than taking away people's ability to think for themselves and determine their futures. Not to mention the likelihood of bloodshed resulting from the attempt.

You may not have seen the reveal about Zuko' heritage coming. But you have touched upon it several times throughout the series. It made me excited for you to see this. The Avatar and The Firelord is definitely one of my favourite episodes🙂

I get what you're saying, but I don't think the ends justify the means. The means in this case being genocide😅

The older I get, the more I take issue with people labeling Sozin as "evil". Don't get me wrong, I think he is wrong, but labeling him evil takes away from the fact that it's very easy for well-intentioned people to slip down his way of thinking. From his perspective, the Fire Nation was more successful, and people would be happier under the Fire Nation's rule once they got used to it. He WAS thinking of the happiness of citizens, but he was just misguided about the value of what they'd be losing; their culture and freedom, was more valuable than wealth. This was, in part due to Roku traveling in to these different lands and experiencing their culture, while Sozin was stuck in the Fire Nation with his responsibility and perspective always centered on it.

is it just me or was it abit a synchron

You asked who put the note there. The theory is that a White Lotus member within the fire nation did that. At Iroh's request. But so far I know there is no confirmation.

Yes, Roku took 12 years to master the 3 elements. But don't forget that the only element that Aang truly mastered is air. He is s good waterbender and earth Bender but I don't believe he is at the level Roku was after the 12 years.

The Avatar and the Firelord is like a top 5 episode of season 3, imo. Awesome lore and reveals, especially about Zuko. And some of the most impactful quotes by Roku: "Some friendships transcend lifetimes" and "When love is real, it finds a way" are my favorite. This episode reminds me, to ask you Sofie: after you finish ATLA, are you planning to continue with the spin-off show Legend of Korra? I really hope you do... =)

The Beach episode is such a fun one, hilarious moments, especially with Azula acting all socially awkward, but those scenes reveal so much of her humanity like you mentioned. This episode I always saw it as the "Breakfast Club" episode. Not sure if you've ever seen that movie Sofie, but its a popular 80s teen movie.

Ariel17

Such a good episodes, and your reaction is the best love you sofie

Vall

This is the first time you see Azula vulnerable, even though she hides it by saying her mother was right of thinking she is a monster
