I think she should have to wait years like we did!

The connection with Star Wars is that in an interview acknowledged that Star Wars was the inspiration? Or is that just a coincidence?

A big Fat L for Team Avatar in season 2 finale unlike season 1 finale. Seeing your reaction to Zuko jumping in then realising hes a traitor was epic!

This is honestly such a fantastic finale, and it has several homages/inspirations with pop culture and art. As you noticed, the whole guru storyline was similar to Luke Skywalker training with Yoda, and like, Aang didn't finish his Avatar training because he had a vision of his friends in trouble. But the way this episode ends is also similar to how The Empire Strikes Back ends, with the heroes being defeated and having to go on the run. Then you have that final battle with Azula/Zuko vs Aang/Katara, which was such an awesome fight but also frenetic and chaotic. What is interesting is the scene right after Azula strikes Aang with lightning, and he falls. Katara catches his lifeless body and that scene of her holding him is reminiscent of Michaelangelo's sculpture La Pietà, where the Virgin Mary holds Jesus' lifeless body after he's taken down from the cross. As the Avatar is viewed as a Messianic figure in this world, it makes sense they would do homage to that Christian symbolism.

So many wonderful and poignant scenes in The Guru episode. Especially when Aang understands how the love in his life is not gone with the loss of his monk friends and Gyatso, but it is transformed and goes on in the form of new love. Also, when the guru is explaining how the elements are all connected like the people of the world, juxtaposed with Toph doing her own meditation and unlocking metalbending is so cool and so beautifully shown. Also, I think this calls back to the swamp episode where Aang learns how the great Banyan grove tree connects the world and he could sense everything when he tapped into its roots. And that was his (and our) first glimpse of Toph as well.

“At least toph happy to SEE him” Sophie!! Thats ruuude😂😂

Great reaction! The stakes were high. If Aang was killed in the avatar state then the avatar would cease to exist. Katara saved more than just Aang. Excited for season 3!

Metal bending is a sub-element of earth, just like how lightning bending is a sub-element of fire!
