Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers / Part 2 /Movie Series Reaction

This has truly been an incredible experience guys! I can honestly say my expectations wouldn't dream of coming close to what these films actually are. The Lord of the Rings has quickly become so special to me and I'm so happy I get to share this journey with all of you.

Have to agree - I've always been heavily fascinated about Tolkien's Dwarves and their culture, and Gimli was too much of comedic relief in these films, which saddens me a little. Despite that, I love these movies to death.

I'm late to this but about the "scoring game" of Legolas and Gimli - Peter Jackson suffers heavily from "Elf-Bias" when he made this adaptation of Lord of the Rings, it's one of the Film's biggest failings. He essentially made Legolas look godly while he turned Gimli into a joke character, when canonically, in the books Gimli is by far the better fighter. He only gets a few great moments to shine in the films, when in the books he outclasses Legolas in basically every fight they get into. It's written that way because Tolkien experienced the Wars of our world, and though the Dwarves are rough and rugged, enjoy brawling and drinking and crafting and mining - all this plays into the "roughneck" attitude of season and grizzled war veterans. They are like the best of the best when it comes to fighting in middle earth. The films down play all of this because of the aforementioned "Elf-Bias" and with how popular they are, most people who see Elves and Dwarves in media now write them or expect them to be similar to these films. that's how influential these films have been, because thats how most people even know Tolkiens works, when its not even a pure adaptation, it is by far the best one, but it's not how Tolkien wrote certain characters. In later "The Hobbit" films, the changes Peter Jackson made are even more egregious though.. To explain what I mean by "better fighters"; while the Elves are ethereal, and have great magic and bow skills and dexterity, the Dwarves of Tolkien's books says that the Dwarves are far, far better in melee combat. essential being 5 ft tall balls of rippling muscle and steely sinew. Dwarves have thicker skin and rock solid muscles. Dwarves with great weapons (like 2 handed axes and hammers) are the strongest race in melee combat. Not only are they beyond strong physically compared to men and Elves, they are the better craftsmen (Dwarven weapons are of higher quality than elven works, at least those not imbued with Elven magics..) and can wear thicker, heavier armour with no loss of dexterity... It's why during all these events in the movies, the Dwarves in the northern lands fought against other armies of Sauron - solo and unaided - and literally held them back for months or years, from within their fortress-cities under the mountains.

Aragorn is responsible for this being this bad he told Theoden to liek him go he wanted to kill Grimma if he let the king do what he wanted Saruman would t have known about the weak point at Helms Deep. This is 100% on Aragorns meddling behind

The moment when you say: " they describe Sauron like lovecraftian being " you had me

I'm a bit late, but regarding your question as to how long Aragorn can live, he canonically lives to the ripe age of 250 years young. Yes, Valinor/the Undying Lands are the original homeland of the Elves, with the original Elven colonists arriving at Middle Earth approximately 6,000 years before the events of the film, if I recall correctly. Regarding the difference between Orcs and Uruk-hai, the Uruk-hai are essentially a cross between Orcs and Men. They're larger, stronger, more durable, more disciplined, and at least as ruthless and aggressive. And yes, they're also more intelligent than your typical Orc. In a very real sense they're super-Orcs. I know you've already finished, but I have to say that I'm absolutely loving these reactions you've made. I look forward to finishing the trilogy tomorrow night!

“Someone get this guy a box” 💀🤣🤣

When Gandalf and the Rohirrim arrive at Helms Deep, man I get goosebumps every single time! Such an epic scene and the score😍

My respect for your insight, sense of humour & thoughtfulness has only grown having watched your reaction - and your thoughts - as you saw this film, Sofie. You are one remarkable young lady.

Grima was crying because he realised the side he's chosen is evil.

Bonjour Sophie ! Wow!

Can't wait for you to see RotK!

I think, not to ramble sleep deprived nonsense for too long, part of the reason these are so special is that these comfort my brain and heart together if that makes sense. Like it's medicine for the both of them at once. These speak to all of me instead of just choosing a lane to go for my emotions or pure cold logic. And it physically feels like a warm hug 🤗 Anyway thanks for posting these they helped me through a rough night just now, take care everyone be kind to yourselves 💕

Absolutely perfect reaction!! Your empathy and attentiveness are so so strong and having watched these again and again since I was a little girl 20+ years ago you caught things I still haven't, seriously great! I love these movies so much. The books that inspired them too. I do try my best to live my life by them and I have a bit of a hobby at this point of watching reactions to get the perspectives of others about them. Honestly, they are my go-to when I need to let myself feel any emotion under the sun. These cover them all in so many ways at once that it feels like I'm looking at human art for the first time, every single time ♥ Glad you're enjoying looking forward to RotK and Princess Bride so much!

I love the moment of Wormtongue shedding a tear. I believe he thought that aligning himself with Saruman would get him what he wanted. Primarily power and Eowyn. But I don’t think that he ever thought it would mean the total decimation of his people. I think this is his moment of recognition of what he has actually played a role in.

Gandalf, while being immensely powerful in terms of magic, especially after his "death", is still not in middle earth to be big on displaying a lot of power himself and forcing the world to obey his will. You have already deduced that he is some kind of angel and that fits pretty well. He is an agent of the (good) higher powers of this world BUT his purpose is explicitly to aid, advise, guide and inspire, NOT to take power and split the sky calling lightning on his enemies. Lets say that said higher powers had some bad hickups with stuff like that in the past.

You coaxed me here from youtube because patience is not one of my virtues. In case you are interested in having lore-questions answered (spoiler free), imma do that, because no sane human can be asked to read up on ALL of the lore of Tolkiens world. A lot of it isn't even explained in the books. Aragorn is an heir to the direct line of the Kings of the "Men of the West" so called, because their original Kingdom was on an island to the West of the Continent LotR takes place on. It isn't there anymore but thats not important. This Kingdom, Numenor, was founded by the Brother of Elrond. Elrond, his brother and therefore also Arwen are all "half-Elves", descended from the first Human/Elf mixed couple. They have the choice to either live as elves or humans, but once they go human, they can't go back and their choice to be "mortal" and live as "humans" does not mean that they will have a human lifespan. "Humanized" half-elves still go on for a thousand years plus, unless dying from illness or, obviously, being killed. While all of the Humans from that Kingdom had longer lifespans than "lesser men" (about double of real world humans), the line of kings could life up to 4-500 years. How strong the strength of that blood comes through varies but is said to be particularly strong in our boy Aragorn. This by the way also means that technically Arwen and Aragorn are blood related, if you wanna be particular about it. Although on his side its like 6000 years or an estimated 300 generations, making it rather meaningless.

Just a little background on the Lord of the Rings and author J.R.R. Tolkien Much of the themes in the book and movie reflect his experience in World War I, particularly in the Battle of Somme, one of the worst battles in War, where modern chemical weapons were deployed. Sauroman's mind of "metal and wheels" reflect the effects of industrialization on both war but as we see now our lives today which are dependent on "machines" - a.i. etc where we just respond and no longer ponder the simpler things of life.

Any idea when your gonna start LORD OF THE RINGS RETURN OF THE KING

Be sure to listen to the song in the end credits. It's titled "Gollum's Song" and is really haunting.

Michael Sullivan

Harry Potter next hehe

LegendarySuperSaiyan

Stayed up until 3am to watch both parts 😂 such an amazing reaction as always! I can’t wait for you to watch the final installment, for me it’s my favourite! But also sad we’re 2/3 of the way to the end haha. Loved watching your reaction ❤️

I remember someone asking Peter Jackson about where the lighting was coming from in some of these darker scenes and he said, from the same place the music comes from, or something to that effect. Made sense to me.

Greg

It might be an epic task, but once you have watched all three movies, you might want to check out the extended edition appendices from the dvd releases. I hope it's ok to share a link here, but someone has uploaded them to YT. Could even make a fantastic set of reactions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wo30CbcgtE0&list=PLRzqXH8K0HzHLIkb6g9PcXtaKBpFpomPB This playlist covers all three films. He has also uploaded playlists for each film individually. There are the best behind the scenes ever done for film. Also if you interested in learning more about the lore, as well as the changes the films made, there are some amazing online resources. Nerd of the Rings on YT has compiled an epic collection and it is very easy to follow. As well as Man of the West. Others may have other recommendations. A lot of people recommend The Silmarillion as the next go to, but it is quite heavy. It's not a novel but chronicles events. A couple of years ago Brian Sibly edited many of the texts into a book called the Fall of Numenor and it's an amazing book to start a lore journey with and less overwhelming. It's also available on Audible. I am loving these reactions. Thank you for taking the time to do them.

You might enjoy knowing that Celeborn and Galadriel in Lothlorien had a daughter. That daughter grew up to marry Elrond. So Arwen is Elrond's daughter and Galadriel's granddaughter. Also, you said "I really need a map." if you ever feel a bit lost on the geography, there are countless maps out there. They really put the "where are they?" and "how far do they have to go" into perspective.

SJ Lute

Now that's how you do a battle in the night. Take notice GOT😂

Namikaza

The scene that makes Smeagol believe Frodo betrayed him is always one of the hardest to watch for me.

Ashley

"Never piss off a tree in a fantasy movie" Sofie wins!

Garrick Smalley

Can't wait for Return of the King! These movies are so good... nothing else really comes close. And to think, they're so old I had them on VHS as a kid growing up...
