lol you guys reactions are funny to me because you might not understand from Asian point of view. Its a cultural thing i guess. For most of us in Asia, our coaches or lecturers can be seen as a mother/father figure if you are very close to them especially since kids spend most of their time at school with the teachers than the parents at home so the teachers are like the mother/father figure.. Coaches/teachers sometimes know more about the kids than their own parents. Although not so much or almost to none nowadays, but it used to be so much harsher back in the day when parents were okay for the teachers to punish their kids at school if they misbehave. Asian parents also do punish their kids with a stick or cane etc to educate them to some extent. After the punishment, we will be back to normal if the kid reflects on their misbehaviors but different families might be different. As a kid, i was also punished with a stick if I was not doing what was told but once I grew up there's no more punishments. Thinking back, my parents were not even harsh with the punishment. it's just to scare me so as to not misbehave or do something stupid again but other parents out there might even be worse. In Asia, it's kind of normal but in other countries, it can be seen as domestic violence I guess. I think to us, as long as it's not a daily thing? or being spanked for no reason? Or until there are multiple bruises, unable to walk, etc then that's far from normal. Usually, we are punished only if we do stupid stuff as kids lol. Again, different families, different practices. About why the coaches go straight to the father, it's also kind of normal for us Asians too because if anything bad happens at school or they have feedback about the students they go straight to the parents. We usually will only get to know that our parents know about it once we reach home and there's this tension in the air lmao Not sure if you noticed, but her father was also an athlete. The coaches addresses the father as sunbaenim (senior) so that's why the coach always reports anything happening to the father. Because they have a senior-junior relationship. As you all might have known, the senior-junior relationship is a big thing in Korea. Kind of sad that you dislike the coach and Bok Joo scene. I think you guys were so blinded and annoyed at the spanking scene that you did not realize that the coach and Bok Joo's moment is very much needed. Remember, Bok Joo does not have a mother figure in her life so the coach is like her mother. She looks up to her and is very close to her. In that scene, it's showing that the coach was there for her and that she understands how Bok Joo is feeling because youngsters in love tend to do stupid things. She is talking to her like a mother would. She also just wants her to find love in a natural way, not by changing herself and faking her life for a guy. Especially as an athlete, it is super unhealthy to go back and forth with the weight and all. We can see that the coach really cherishes her, worries about her, and want what's best for her. In future episodes, you will see more of this. Also, about the coach and father pushing her to do stuff that she don't want, i don't think she doesn't want to do it. She wanted to but it was at the wrong timing. She did say 'why now of all time' since she just started to go to the clinic. The show has shown and highlighted multiple times how Bok Joo loves weightlifting so much and her dream was to participate in the Olympics so the coach was trying to push her toward her dream. It's just that she is distracted with her puppy love that she kind of lost her way.. I believe if she was not going to the clinic at the time, she will go all out to train and increase her weight Anyway! I hope you kind of understand it a little bit now. I guess this might be the first time you see things like this in a kdrama but things like this have been shown in other kdramas as well, actually might be even worse than this. So i hope you're not gonna be shocked again in the future lol

Everyone was thinking the doctor lured her there & she still would tell them way. It's sad that her friend realized that it's better to just tell the truth than keep letting everyone think the worst. Also she was hitting her butt with the stick. Also school being able to hit the kids is normal for Korean dramas soit doesn't faze me. My mom always made sure the school knew that they were to never put their hands on me. Also dad with that guilt trip pissed me off. Also as much as you weren't a fan of the moment, it is showing that after she understood the full situation, she was able to comfort Bok Joo a little by letting her know that it's okay to feel what your feeling. It's normal to chase after boys & be in love.
