2022-11-14 19:44:34 +0000 UTCno need to feel stupid!!! yes there are a lot of details but its okay if you miss here and there, it'll eventually come up again. like the part of the guy being Ae-shins cousins husband, his character didn't really come out until this episode, so you guys didn't miss anything. there's still tons more episodes left and most likely lots more surprises as well~ even me as a korean, watched this show multiple times, and every time ill be like woahh i never noticed this before! lol. and just to give you better understanding of the pronunciation of their names~ Ae-shin (like when you say ehhh , Eh-Shin might be easier) Hui-sung ( its like Wheeee~ , but with a silent H in front, Hwhee - sung ) Dong-mae i think u guys got it, Hina as well, like Tina but with a H.

Instead of Lee Jeong Moon trying everything to find Kudo Hina's mother, Lee Jung-moon is supporting the king with the information obtained from Kudo Hina, Hotel Glory's owner. Whether she's doing this for Joseon or her personal purpose to find her mother will become clearer as the story unfolds.

In my opinion, Dong mae and Hina forms a emotionally very much linked friendship, whom understand each other's terrible childhood and pain the best. Each of them is a very attractive man and woman, so it is easy to mistake them for a romantic relationship(or some desperately want them develop their relationship to a romantic one). However, between those two person, there is a sense of homogeneity about tragic life that an ordinary person would not have experienced, and a comradeship that each had the courage to overcome their fate, or run away from it, or relieve it in their own way(whether the way was violent or not) Just as friendship is not an inferior concept to love, Kudo Hina and Goo Dong Mae's relationship was emotionally very powerful to me. I would say that they are life friends with pain that no one can easily understand except them each other, and the vitality to overcome it, and the common denominator that they have fought for their life as like a warriors. Yes, it's a kind of love, a big love. but not in a sexual or romantic way, I guess.

(*My English is not good enough, but I hope it helps you.) -------------------------------------- Kudo Hina (her ex-Korean name: Lee Yang-Hwa) Even before the ink dried up in her Joseon name Lee Yang-hwa, she married very early due to her pro-Japanese groupn father's extraordinary "insight" and became "Kudo Hina"(Japaness name). Her mother couldn't even see her daughter's marriage. It was because her mother was expelled from her father, Lee Wan-ik, because she was Korean. Thanks to her father who sells everything, whether it's his daughter or country, so she had to sell her by herself before she was sold by someone(=father), and she had to stand herself up before she was disposed. When her father made Hina married to an rich old Japanese man, Hina chose to bite rather than cry. She aim at the weak point, bite, and made it knocked down. Five years after forced marriage, her brutal abusive old Japanes husband went to died, and Hina inherited a huge inheritance as if she were compensated for her lifeless youth. It was the "Hotel Glory". When she inherited the hotel, his father Lee Wan-ik was the person who was the most glad. Hina could clearly see her father's dirty intention and so she stubbornly used her husband's last name(Kudo= a Japaneses name) to avoid losing the hotel, even though she hated that name. The young and beautiful widow on the floor of Hansung(old name of Seoul) was another entertainment for those who visited the hotel. Modern boys, dandy boys, roompens, and Joseon boys all flocked to the hotel "Glory," and Hina broke the highest sales every day. Hina didn't have to envy even the King of Joseon. All the power of Joseon was in the men, but they were always in the hotel Glory. Hina watched Joseon with a smile every night, which was brutally tearing by the imperialists' tongues. Joseon should also choose to bite rather than cry, but it was unfortunate in her eyes. Her life was always the life of second. Her second name became the authorized name for her, the second country(Japan) became the official country to her, and now that second man was her real love, so what a perfect life! Of course the man was none other than Eugene Choi. But that man, he's looking at another woman. And the woman is lady Ae-shin, who is high noble family named Go. Will Hina bite Go Ae-shin or not?

2022-11-07 13:31:10 +0000 UTCAlso I think at this point you can stop hating Hui seong, he doesn't deserve this :D I can't really understand if Josh is joking about hating him at this point or not. At the beginning okay he seemed annoying he acted like a brat you couldn't see his real emotions so you hated him, so I understand, but now he has shown many times that he is only acting like that. He isn't happy like he acts all the time, he wants to make others happy so he jokes around, he isn't actually interested in women or money, he is interested in stuff that are beautiful but at that time for a man that was considered "useless". He likes Aeshin so he genuinely helps her, he told her to use him as her shadow what else this man has to do :D I think like Kudo Hina, his character is also very interesting so please pay more attention to him, without any prejudices.

I guess you can call her wildcard because in the beginning no one thought her character would be important, we all thought she would be just hotel owner who would have a crush on Eugene. But she has been doing more than that Her father married her against her will to some rich Japanese old man, whom she killed later. She has feelings for Eugene, but as you can see there is something starting to happen between her and Dongmae. She is a character that doesn't represent any side but only herself. Like Eugene represents America, Aeshin Korea, Dongmae Japan, but she only represents herself and her people, so everything she does is for herself and her people. If she likes you she will help. Hence if Eugene needs help she will help, if Dongmae needs help she will help, if her servants need help she will help. She hates her father, I wouldn't say she wants him dead, but she definitly doesn't want to see his face. She is very strong yet lonely character. I really like her, I think she is one of the most interesting characters. In other kdrama she could easily be a main character and I would love to see her full story there.

2022-11-07 09:36:30 +0000 UTCJosh - don't feel dumb since Mr Sunshine is a more "intellectual" kdrama compared to other light kdramas. My 2nd time watching this with you guys and I still get confused with the storyline. Kudo Hina (hotel owner) is a "good guy" but she has to be extremely secretive with who she supports since she is a Korean who has Japanese nationality from marrying a rich Japanese man. Her father who is Lee Wan Ik (old bad guy with a limp who is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs) sold her off to the rich Japanese man who is now dead (presumed poisoned by Kudo Hina). Lee Wan Ik therefore gained his power/position with the Japanese government and became a negotiator for the Japanese with the Joeson government from Kudo Hina's dead husband who was probably a very powerful man. Kudo Hina therefore inherited her dead husband's fortune which enabled her to buy the Glory Hotel. Kudo Hina resents her father for selling her off young and for the disappearance of her mother. Hope this helps you a little bit. :D x
