This series is so good and actually made me interested in the history. I know it’s a fictional story but there are true historical things in it. So after seeing it the first time, as a westerner, I wanted to read books on the Righteous Army and the timeline of when things happened. Thank you both for reminding me how good this show is. I was already of fan of Lee Byung-hun when I first saw it, but there are times when he pulls off a comedic moment so well and it catches me off guard. I’m like,”did he mean to be funny? Then I’ll be laughing so hard. I love Kim Tae-ri also, but the supporting cast in this are so good. The characters are all so layered.

The reason why Eugene said they would have to part if he revealed his true origin as a slave is because Lady Ae-Shin is a noble. It would be a HUGE taboo in the Joeseon era to be romantic with someone from a "lower rank" and a slave is the lowest rank during that period (similar to black slaves in America and Europe).
