That scene where the news reporter is talking about a crime in England where someone killed 13 women is a real case. The killer was called The Yorkshire Ripper (real name Peter Sutcliffe) and is one of Englands most famous serial killers.
The movement ‘Reclaim the Night’ was also a real thing, it originally started in the 70’s but it was reignited during The Yorkshire Rippers killing after the government and police urged women to stay indoors and not be out alone at night to avoid being killed. Women didn’t want to told to stay indoors instead they wanted the government and police to put more effort into catching the killer and educate people on violence against women, so they began marching and ‘reclaiming the night’ (hence the name)
It’s weird to see The Yorkshire Ripper being mentioned in this drama because even though the killer Do Bong Soon is trying to catch isn’t real and is part of a comedy drama, women being murdered because they’re seen as less important and inferior is definitely a real thing
