Not sure if you noticed, but when Tanjiro killed the demon mother he switched stance at the last second to give her a gentle death, because he saw that she had given up.

I suggest to watch the series version. you can watch the whole mugen train arc in one seating (7 episodes for the series version). the movie is only 2+hrs so there are scenes that were removed to fit the whole arc in the movie. There's no difference in the storyline anyway. so up to you ๐
