Writing Update 13/11/24
Added 2024-11-14 03:46:41 +0000 UTCHowdy folks.
I have momentous news! Thanks in large part to y'all. My medical bills are handled.
Not paid off. Just, in hand. I'm no longer drowning, and I can now afford to spend money on stuff other than absolute necessities. I'd like to commission some art for my stories. Front Cover Art, if you will. And I absolutely refuse to pay in 'exposure.' Hence, why I couldn't do this before.
Any of you lot know an artist that is open to commissions and can handle different art styles? Cause like, It's About Saving Yourself, I'd rather keep close to the anime's art style. But Kaiju Slaying would require something different.
It's not a priority at the moment. But now that I have breathing room, I do wanna use the money you guys give me to create a better product for you lot.
Speaking of product. The next Kaiju Slaying is sitting at almost a thousand words. Which is good. Honestly, that fic is the more difficult of the two to write, because of all the plot threads that are going on in it all at once. I endeavor to write if not a realistic story, at the very least an authentic one. Because let's be honest, giant biomechs fighting Christian Kaiju under orders from literally Death working for a multiversal slaving conglomerate. Realism was never really in the cards. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't strive for authentic repercussions to a character's actions.
I do think that keeping things authentic with a dash of realism lead to a more satisfying reading.
Now. Warning. Everything was going well at work, and then the guys in charge got greedy. They're pushing to do three jobs, each of which would normally take more than a month, and complete all three of them, start to finish, in a month.
While we're already loaded. They're expecting us to 'maybe' need to work overtime on the weekends. This is entirely 'voluntary' of course. But me working on an 'at-will' state, if I decide to not, then chances are the next time the ax comes, it finds my neck. And then I'll be kinda f'ed. I do not make enough on Patreon/Subscribestar to quit my job unfortunately. XD
I will absolutely positively aim to keep my same output. It's thanks to you lot that I was able to climb out of the despair spiral I found myself in while drowning in medical debt. But uhh, I might finally end up not managing to keep my streak going.
I will make every effort. But we will see.
Also, the current plan is to publicly post He Who Fights Demons, Gallows Humors, Gallows Duties, and Rage Against The Dark publicly this weekend. We will see how that goes.
Now for something completely different.
Nearly lost my parents over the weekend. A guy driving a truck towing a flatbed trailer forgot he was towing a trailer, and after getting past my parent's car in the two-lane road, moved back into the lane too soon and hooked the trailer on their car and drove them off the road. Luckily my pops has a looooooooot of experience driving, he regained control of the car, and nothing too bad happened. But that could have gone much worse.
I say this not asking for pity. But to point out that, even if you do everything perfectly, shit will still happen. You never do know when you will walk out the door, and never see someone you love ever again. So give the people you care about a call, a hug, or otherwise spend some time with them. Even if you don't have much in common, you will be glad you did, take it from an idiot who didn't learn that lesson the painless way.
Thank you for your time. And please, stay safe out there.
Have a pic of one of the set of models I am most proud of. Don't remember the name of these things from Blackstone Fortress. But I think they came out pretty okay. I've used them mostly as monsters in a D&D and Star Wars TTRPG.

I may be just off the third 12+ hour shift at work, but fear naught! The next chapter of Saving Yourself is currently sitting at just over 2k words and coming along good! I just, I can't write right now, my brain is fried from work.

2024-11-23 01:30:18 +0000 UTCThanks for the words of praise. Believe you me, they're greatly appreciated. And man, thanks for the praise on Rage Against the Dark. I all but grew up reading military fiction and military sci-fi. I think I read my first military fiction book when I was twelve, and simply never stopped. It makes me glad to know I was able to do the subject SOME justice.

2024-11-14 18:26:12 +0000 UTCAwesome minis, glad your folks are ok, thanks for all your hard work, and I Hope Rage against the Dark becomes a regular story. Competent military SF set during the Clone Wars is rare and yours scratches an itch I didn't know I had.
