It seems like it's the beginning of my path to learning about Unreal Engine.
Take this post as an info post instead of a WIP one. I'll focus here on my recent advancement and how it will affect my next projects.
So, what’s the deal? For the first time, I’ve successfully used Unreal Engine for my project. It opens A LOT of new possibilities and most importantly - I’m getting closer and closer to my main goal. If you don’t know, my main goal is to make my projects as close as possible to official Dota 2 cinematics. And one of the “requirements” was using Unreal Engine. Most cinematics are made inside this engine. With it, I can push the quality of my projects to absolute limits.
What does this mean for you? A huge (or not :) ) bump in quality. Sadly this also means the first few projects will look worse than usual as I'm learning how to use it.
This will be a painful path, but it will be worth it for sure. UE it's a game engine after all, and it requires a specific way of thinking and problem-solving. For now, I can use it in limited ways as I don't know how to port or replicate effects from Blender. The biggest and saddest issue I currently have is I can't move tentacles from Blender into UE because of how the tentacles I use work. So, for now, I am limited to using only character x character scenes. This also means that I need to create a separate library of assets to use in UE which will take some time.
If it’s so hard, why not stick with Blender? I can agree with this statement as I can get similar good results with Blender, but I already hitting Blender render engine limits and it’s hard to do effects you can see in cinematics. Unreal Engine is the next step in my career as a 3D artist. While I admit that Blender is a powerful tool where you can do almost anything, but for my goals I need to use UE.
The next few short animations will be rendered using UE. I would like to use it in my current projects, but it's way too risky and it's better to use the tool I know the best.
See you soon!
