You can just prop it under the side of the car directly in line between the 2 wheels but closer to the tire you are about to change. Then it is much easier to turn the screw mechanism using the hook thing and the L shaped lug nut remover thingy. That is how we do it for Indian cars. Not sure if it is different for American cars
