These batteries capture energy during braking (kinetic energy) and from the engine's heat (thermal energy), storing it to provide an electrical power boost for a limited time during a lap to enhance speed and efficiency, according to the cited sources.

In the 24 Hours of Daytona (Rolex 24), each driver must drive for a minimum of 2 hours (GTP and GTD Pro classes) or 4.5 hours (LMP2 and GTD classes) and cannot exceed 13 hours total driving time. Drivers also cannot drive for more than 4 hours in any 6-hour stretch.
