quantifica july

Hey team. Life has been very LIFE this month, but we carry on. The numbers are gonna paint one story, but the text will paint another, so read on if you want!

DABBLES

I have spent fully half of July out of state, and a good chunk of it out of the country, so the work has been varied and hard to track. But it's also been interesting and very promising! I'll run you through it:

Currently, I'm working on four different videos and just kind of picking which I'll tackle on a given day based on vibes. So far this has not led to horrible lack of focus, nor has any individual video been horribly neglected. What makes this different from previous times in my life where I've dabbled so much that nothing ever got finished (besides meds)? This time I have collaborators.

For the first time, I am co-writing an episode of The Alt-Right Playbook with another YouTuber (I'll keep which one a surprise for now). They actually approached me and pitched a really solid topic I found I had been dancing around here and there but had yet to make a video about, and they kicked out a first pass of the script with lightning speed. There's no concrete projection for when we're hoping to have it done - I'm traveling for another couple weeks - but we're aiming for "Fall."

I also put out the call on a Discord server recently for some help with videos, and several good people reached out. This may lead to a number of collabs in the future, and the first is a friend who is splitting the workload on the Adventure Game Tier List. I've been locking down the scripts and will be recording audio quite imminently, and we'll edit them together to save time/maintain momentum.

Beyond that, I am working on the Nuclear Throne script when I'm feeling low and a fun script about unofficial remakes of Yojimbo when I'm feeling cheerful. Knowing myself, one or another of these will probably snag my undivided attention and the rest will get ignored for a while, but, at the moment, it feels nice to follow the muse.

FINANCIALS

Let me tell you: things do not look great here, but August is already looking fantastic.

The Afterword I wrote for Jacob Geller's book has made it through edits and revisions and I will be getting paid shortly; also, I'm getting paid for a bunch of non-video work that I'm doing while traveling; also, the copyright dispute on "Smart Music" has finally been resolved so I'm getting the money I'm owed on the next AdSense payout; also, around the time Joe Biden dropped out of his re-election campaign, How to Radicalize a Normie started surging in viewership, and, for the first time in well over a year, that video is monetized because the age-restriction was lifted. So we are already gonna be above target for August whether or not I release a video! The leanness of July is, to an extent, an investment in August.

BINGOS

Another special square filled!

JUNE MINIMIX

More tunes. You can deduce how I'm doing from this. I saw two of these bands live in the past week. Feelings were had.

Lawnmower
- Bent Knee has a new album coming out and this was their first single; it wrecks me

Let's Get This Over With
- been a lot of TMBG on this trip, surprised it's their first appearance on a minimix

Anxiety
- downloaded Traumazine to listen to on the train, immediately fell for this (also Not Nice)

Fuck Was I
- Spotify rec

Don't Ask Me
- been re-listening to this a bunch

No Children
- went from "that perfectly fine song Mountain Goats fans won't shut up about" to "the most cathartic song ever written" in a matter of weeks

Comments

Thanks; I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed any news about it.

Kass Fireborn

it'll come out after all the Alt-Right Playbooks I've written but not released

Ian Danskin

Hey, whatever became of How to Tell the Truth? I just smacked into my nth instance of someone on the Left presenting the full conservative argument before any rebuttal, and it reminded me of that script.

Kass Fireborn

not Moops, no. just noticed Always a Bigger Fish is demonatized on a copyright strike, though; better go appeal that.

Ian Danskin

Yay for the victory on Smart Music! Glad to hear that was resolved successfully. Also happy to hear that How to Radicalize a Normie has had a resurgence and is earning for you. Did The Card Says Moops also get age restricted? I feel like that's the video that is the best prep (balm?) for an election year, so I hope it can earn and also sees a resurgence.

PC Escobar

you can't just start people off with Token Back to Brooklyn

Ian Danskin

I know, I heard the other singles live on Thursday!

loled at the spot-on description of "No Children" (right up there with Cry for Judas and Amy as one of my favourite songs of all time)

Gem Newman

TMBG is my favorite band that I can never fully recommend to friends for how weird they are lol

Extranji

Lawnmower has been out for a little bit. Bent Knee released a couple more songs on Bandcamp when they officially announced the new album.
