"Free"? I pay for YT Premium -- "in theory" -- in exchange for not having to be flogged with unwanted marketing.
"Easily skippable"? This is not an inserte4d YT partner ad, but a recorded promotion, there is no "easy skip", I have to manually intervene to find the end of the unwanted promotion to find where the content -- which I'm already paying for -- resumes.

Yes how dare someone include an easily skippable ad in their free to watch content.

It'd be nice to have a version of it without the big ad in the middle for the people who are paying supporters.

its referring to the youtube ads though, not his sponsorships

Unfortunately, that's all the power you really have. I personally am not against it as much as you are, but it is annoying and it makes me question why I support creators via alternative means (I.E. Patreon) if I'm still the product via adverts.
I only donate a small amount to CGP Grey ($3/video), but if my viewership is already netting him income then I'm contemplating cancelling. I don't really read any of the posts he makes on Patreon, I just do it to support him.

Oh, right... I thought embeded ads were ads on the embeded youtube viewers on other website, like when watching youtube on patreon

@Dario: I think you've misunderstood. Adblock won't do anything about the SkilShare sponsorship in the middle of the video.

That's exactly the rub of it for me: don't call it adblock absolution while embedding sponsorships. I expect grey is testing this, and I hope he hears the feedback.

Can't say im a big fan of having the ads in the middle of the episode. Is this a new thing that Grey is doing? I can't remember any other videos of his that have Ads in the middle.
Paying for Adblock Absolution feels a bit weird when Im still seeing Ads and have no easy way of skipping. Its really a shame :/

You can use an adBlock for the ads (you are paying not to have them so there is nothing morally wrong with it). And since you are a patreon, I believe you want to support the creators. They make a significant part of their income from sponsored content, so please be gentle. Also, if you want to help creators, it is my belief that you shouldn't pay for youtube premium. you should rather use an adBlock and pay more on patreon, this way, creators have an independent source of income and are not taken hostage by youtube

Your agreement is with YT, not CGP Grey.

What YT pays CGP is between him and YT to negotiate.
Since he has the extra sponsorship from Skillshare, then he doesn't need as much from me. I try to support channels without corp sponsorship, so good for him he has the extra cash.
I've lowered my monthly contribution accordingly.

Skip past? This is not the only channel which wastes people's time selling things they don't want. It adds up.
Consider how many times you purchase a car in your lifetime. How many days are you spending over your lifetime actually buying one? 30? 60?
Now consider the DAILY bombardment of car ads time all the people's time who are not interested in buying a car. It's crazy the amount of wasted effort, money and time spent lobbying for a product people don't want.
The premise for cable TV in the 70s was because you were paying, there would be no ads. Today cable TV is ALL ADS. You're now paying to have people try to sell you things you don't need.
This is why I unplugged and stream only. But what to I get for paying for "no ads" on YouTube?
Ads.
For things I don't want or need. Ad nauseum.

Entitled? I'm paying extra to not have my time wasted with ads. Entitlement would be complaining WITHOUT paying.
"I paid for 200Mb internet but only get 100Mb!"
"You sound entitled."
WTF?
Stockholm Syndrome much?

It only takes a couple of seconds, if even that, to skip past them... It probably took longer to write your complaint.

How much of your subscription do you estimate goes to Grey for that 8min Q&A?

I think you might be fighting a losing battle. Plus you sound kind of entitled.

PLEASE. Make. The. Embedded. Ads. STOP.
I pay for YT Premium for a reason -- I value my time and sanity.
I'm NOT going to pay or subscribe to Skillshare, Curiosity Stream, or WHATEVER you're hocking. Rubbing products and services in my face I don't want doesn't enamor me to your content, in fact, it's just doing the opposite.
Unintended consequences.

as a fellow HeroQuest enthusiast who fondly remembers DM-ing for family games of monster-slaying and furniture placing - Gloom Haven is the worthiest successor I've run across, I assume you've heard of it, maybe you've played it, but if you haven't, or you haven't, take a look, even with only two or three people it easily scratches that old itch for me.

I like a lot of CGP's speculation about the future, and in that regard, "Flash Forward" by Rose Eveleth is very neat.
But if you were asking whether it's a good idea to support additional people, then my answer is "Yes!". I try to support anyone who produces stuff I consume regularly. It only seems fair, and it's a miniscule amount of my overall budget. (Although a larger chunk of my budget for just-fun-things.) Cheers!

Ok, thanks for the video. BTW, I wonder sometimes how much comments influence people who create, just in the sense of how it influences their work.
