Production update 2025-01-03

Happy new year!

Hello everyone. I hope you've all had great holidays. Christmas here in Barcelona was nice, but it was a bit bittersweet to be away from home. Here's how my December went!

The release of DK64 WR History part 1 went great. The reception has been warm and enthusiastic, and it has been performing well on the YouTube metrics.

Immediately after the release of DK64 WR History part 1, I hopped on a plane and went to London for 8 days with my girlfriend. We visited a bunch of places, we went on her Harry Potter pilgrimage, and we had a lot of fun. We also got sick, because apparently, running around in 5ºC in wind and rain for 10 hours a day, 8 days straight, running on low sleep and underdressed, is not optimal to stay healthy!

Once I got back home, I took a few days to recover, and I started furiously typing. I typed and typed, very furiously of course, and it just kept going and going. Christmas came and I wasn't done, so I took a few days break and resumed on the 27th or so. I kept at it, and when I was finally done, I looked back, and...

I enjoyed telling the story of 2016-2024 so much that I ended up with a much longer script than expected. Part 1 was about 9000 words and it turned into a 55-minute video. Part 2 is almost double that.

So, I considered my options, trimming the script, making a 90+ minute part 2, but then I looked at the halfway point of Part 2 and found a spot that could act as a fun cutoff / cliffhanger. And that's what I ultimately decided: this will be easier to make as a three part series after all.

After separating it in two halves, I ended up with a Part 2 and a Part 3 that would come up just a little bit shorter than Part 1; I expect around 48-50 minutes for Part 2 and 50-52 for Part 3. Of course, things are subject to change, and my estimates will most likely be off (I always tend to underestimate!)

The next step was to make a production schedule. I settled on a release date somewhere around February 7th, but it's not set in stone. It will definitely be in the first half of February though.

This is the plan as of right now. As you can see, I'm leaving some breathing room on the weekends, as well as a few days of leeway before the release. Recording should take me the first two weeks, and editing should take about four. If all goes well, the video will be finished right at the end of January.

So, I will soon begin recording and editing! I'm excited to get to that part. Writing 16000 words uninterrupted (as in, without other forms of work to break it up) has definitely made me itch for the editing process. Expect weekly updates from now on!

That's it for now. See you next week!
