Update 2024-09-28

Hello everyone!

As you know, I've been busy elsewhere for the past couple of months. I am leaving for Spain tomorrow! I will be there until the end of June 2025.

While I have mostly been focused on applying for a visa and preparing all the other details for the trip, I wasn't entirely idle. I have been working on translating videos to French, and I'm launching a French language channel today!

Unfortunately, I didn't get as much done as I planned. I finished the translation of the video on the 4:54 in SMB1, but while working on it, I realized there were more details that had to be updated or clarified than I thought, and there was a compatibility issue that led to clips being off by a frame and causing visual glitches. I fixed the most egregious ones but it would have been too much work to redo all of them, so I left some in a slightly broken state.

I also translated the script for the SM64 1 key TAS but ran out of time to record and edit so I'll do that in Spain. Once I'm in Barcelona, the first order of business is finding an apartment. This has been very hard to do from abroad. Of the dozens of apartments we applied for, we got two visits and one reservation. We had to pay almost €2,000 (over $CAD2,800) to the booking agency just to end up rejected by the landlord. They're reimbursing the fee but with transaction fees and exchange rates we're likely to be out over a hundred bucks from this. All this to say, this is the priority, and once we have a place to live in, I'll start thinking about making videos again!

Future projects

I have two major ideas for future projects. The first is an actual, honest-to-god World Record progression. I want to make it about Donkey Kong 64 101%! It's always been my favourite speedrun and I've been around the game for 12 years, so I think I can do that story justice. Plus, I've always wanted to talk about the cool tricks in 101% that aren't seen anywhere else, and a full speedrun breakdown of a 5.5 hour run is simply not feasible, so I think this is the best way to do it.

I plan on placing a heavier emphasis on explaining tricks than on the sequence of world records. I also plan on focusing on Nintendo 64 runs because it is the more popular console, and I don't like the Wii U version. It's my video, I do what I want, Wii U VC was a mistake, Nintendo 64 is best I will take no further questions.

The second is another Super Mario 64 big series. An updated 120 star TAS has been in the works for about 80 years now, and I have the mildest of hopes that they are going to finish it at some point. Well, I'd like to break it down in its entirety! Of course, that's a huge project, so it would be split in several parts. For now, my rough estimate is about 15 to 20 stars per part, but most likely pretty front loaded because BLJs don't need to be reintroduced every single time. So it might end up being something like 5, 10, 15, 20, 20, 25, 25 stars per part or something like that. I expect the whole thing to last roughly 4 hours.

Other than that, I plan on translating the DK64 TAS video, the Minecraft video, and my next future release. From there, I'll judge if the French channel is worth pursuing or if it's not taking off at all and taking too much time away from regular content. I will say I have been enjoying working in my native tongue, and I think I am doing a decent job at creating a French language resource of speedrunning lingo by choosing to translate as many terms as I can.

That's it for now! I will post again once I am settled and ready to resume video production.
