Update 2024-07-16
Added 2024-07-16 21:29:53 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
I wanted to give a much needed update on what's going on right now and what's coming up in the near future.
First of all, I want to apologize, again, for how I've been slacking on giving proper updates on production recently. I'm sorry, I let myself lose the habit and procrastination took over. I'll try to be better in the future.
Immediate plans
So, what am I working on next? Well, the answer might disappoint you... nothing. For the next two months, I will be focused on a pretty big personal life move: my girlfriend and I are moving to Spain for a year! She is pursuing a one-year Master's degree at BAU University of Barcelona in stop motion animation. I'll be following her there, which means I will be in Spain from October 2024 to the end of June 2025.
We're very excited about this trip, but also very stressed about all the process around it - visas (that's the biggest hurdle by far), insurance, driver's license, address changes, phone number change, bank accounts, credit cards, and so much more. It's been a whole lot of stressful and tedious paperwork and we aren't anywhere close to done.
I should still keep releasing videos while I'm there, but just know that I'm entering a 2-month period where I will not be focusing on making any new videos.
Next video
That being said, I do have a couple of ideas for my next video, whenever that might be. I have a few games for which I've been considering doing a WR or TAS explained, mostly NES/SNES stuff with a couple of odd PC games, and I have an idea for a second giant Super Mario 64 project that is really tickling me these days. It would be different enough from my existing work on the ABC history series to be quite unique, and the subject matter is an absolute endless pool of cool things to talk about. I don't want to reveal it just yet because I'm still on the fence about taking on such a large project though. I'll make a decision on what I do next in the coming weeks, and maybe start drafting a script before I leave for Spain.
Other plans
So, in the meantime, will I be completely idle for 2 months? No!
I didn't want to take on a full video project while I was preparing for the move, because it would have been very stressful and difficult to focus on both things at once. However, I do have an idea for something that I can do that will be a lighter workload. It's actually something I've been considering doing for 3 years, but never got around to it. Well, I am doing it now! I have created a new channel: Bismuth FR. The name is pretty obvious: I am dubbing my own videos in French!
I know the French public is quite large and tends to consume a lot of content in French over content in English, so I'm hoping that this new channel can take off in France and Québec. I will probably start with 2-3 videos, then slowly work through the backlog, and probably do most of my future releases as well, if the channel is doing well. If it seems like it's going nowhere and it's gathering zero interest, though, I don't intend to keep doing it forever.
Very creative logo.
Music (bad news)
In terms of music, unfortunately, this move is bad news. I don't think I will have a piano to play on while I will be gone. I might be able to convince my brother to play some tunes for me instead, but generally speaking, this means new custom piano music is going to be halted for a year. It would make sense for me to take on that Super Mario 64 megaproject, I guess, since my Mario catalogue is already pretty interesting.
That's it for now! I might give some stray quick updates here and there over on Discord. Other than that, I'm on a short hiatus and I'll see you in two months, from Spain!
Comments
I don't personally watch a lot of YouTube videos in French to be quite honest.

2024-07-17 01:08:50 +0000 UTCCan’t wait to practice my French listening comprehension with your videos! I will develop a fairly strange vocabulary, I guess haha

2024-07-17 01:07:27 +0000 UTCVery cool idea with the French channel! Ive always been kinda fascinated with the whole parallel ecosystems of other videos that exist in different languages but havent made the time to really research them yet. Are there any particular French-language channels with scripted content about games you could recommend? Just curious

2024-07-16 22:27:29 +0000 UTCI'm from Québec, so hopefully, my exotic accent will be intriguing for the French public.

2024-07-16 22:18:03 +0000 UTCWow didn't know you speak French (I just also realized I don't know where you come from lol). Very good news about the French channel, French speaking audience is quite known to like speedrunning: we had the first ever official restream of GDQ events and we now also have our own annual speedrun/charity event called SpeeDons, all thanks to the incredible streamer MisterMV. I'm sure your channel will find its public! Congrats and best of luck for the move, hope you'll like our neighbors from the south!

2024-07-16 21:44:12 +0000 UTCI would also need to practice a lot to learn new pieces. Unfortunately, I just might not play piano very much for the next year.

2024-07-16 21:39:05 +0000 UTCDumb thought, but I wonder if there's anywhere where you're moving in Spain that would let you rent and use a piano to record your custom music. Good luck on the move!
