This month is a 2019 gig at the Museum of Contemporary art in MA, a huge and fascinating venue we've been lucky enough to play more than once. I picked this night because A) it's a great spot and our shows are always high-spirited there, and B) it marks an early appearance of some then-unreleased MADLO material which we were still sort of working out. I can definitely hear in my own guitar playing licks and sounds that I would later change, and it's fun to rediscover these prototype performances and go "oh yeah, I definitely stopped doing that there, and I changed this tone here, and I added reverb there..." (this is before I got a Strymon Timeline and completely went off the deep end) It's also great to hear those MADLO tracks with the Naked Giants accompanying, which was not the case when we did officially tour the album in '22.
Will's vocals are really spirited this night and it made me laugh hearing our weird on-stage jokes which I no longer understand. At some point we were considering renaming to "Dag." Or Dag was a new member? However, Dag was soon kicked out of the band for constantly jumping the gun on songs. Anyway, it's great.
Next month I may shoot for a more recent show where the tracklist is pretty different. I'll be sad not to have the ghosts of Naked Giants in my ears anymore, but mixing only one or two guitars will be nice at least. Until next time: take care, tschüss, and bis später!

2025-02-28 18:25:07 +0000 UTCI remember being at this show and hearing Can't Cool Me Down - and something deep in my brain just -snapped- because I thought it was such a delicious guitar lick, and I loved the grain in Will's voice haha. I've been DYING to hear this again and was just telling my boyfriend about the more rock version of CCMD. Can't wait to show him this later. Thank you for sharing!! :,-)

I remember explaining to my partner on the drive there that the “Ballad of Costa Concordia” was the greatest meditation on teen angst and frustration since Quadraphenia, the movie. Was hoping you’d, play it, but was delighted by the cover instead.

2025-02-28 06:52:25 +0000 UTCsuggestion for another show to dig up: what about that showcasey/workshoppy show where you all did a BUNCH of wip madlo stuff? the much slower WIP version of Hollywood, You Know There's Someone Out There, all that? i think some video footage of it was in the end of the TIDAL documentary? of course it was all really unfinished at the time, but who doesn't love a good peek behind the curtain?!!
