Production update 2023-12-19

Hello everyone!

I've been meaning to update for a while, but I kept putting it off and, well here we are.

In the first week after mostly finishing the script, I managed to stay on top of things for the most part and get things done at roughly the pace I had set up in my production schedule. I had one unproductive day that I made up with a very productive day, and I was only about half a day behind a few days ago.

As far as recording voiceover goes, though, I fell behind because my voice has been kind of bad for the past week. I'm not sick, but maybe the air is too dry, because I often have a clogged sinus and a sore/dry throat, and my voice sounds weak and tired. So I've been recording rarely and for shorter sessions, to the point where I would often have to record if I wanted to keep editing because I'd run out of recorded material.

In the past few days though, I kind of fell into bad habits where I'd start procrastinating and struggling to get going, and I had a family gathering on the 17th that was supposed to take half a day but ended up taking the entire day. It all compounded into getting about two days worth of progress in the span of five. Hence the late update - I meant to post this almost a whole week ago!

So, the current situation is not great, but still okay for releasing the video before Christmas. I didn't move anything around in the production schedule, so you can see how far behind I am:

Two full days of editing, and I'll need two to three days to record the rest of the voiceover. Thankfully, the remaining things I have to edit are, for the most part, quite light work, so I believe I can knock the rest out in three days and still release on the 22nd. We'll just have to see. On the bright side, I finished all the music and finally completed the post-run section of the script yesterday (that's something I really put off!). So, progress is looking like this:

And now, a glimpse of the cool stuff I made. Like I said in a past update, this video is a bit more lightweight than most of my more recent stuff, so there's not as much to show, but I still think it'll be a great way to understand the SMB2 any% run. Let's get into it!

Explaining the carpet glitch. It's similar to gltichy wall kicks with referenced vs. unreferenced walls, except this time the second carpet is "referenced" and the first is "unreferenced" so the game thinks Toad isn't on a carpet because the second one says so.
