Production update 2023-12-07

Hello! I know it's now the 8th for most people, including me, but functionally it's the end of the 7th for me so I'm rolling with this.

I'm nearly finished with the script for the SMB2 video. I have 3860 words and 17 out of 20 sections finished (I might axe one of the remaining 3). The whole run is done, I just need to do the post-run stuff like what's left after this, the TAS, and find an inspiring quote to end the video on. So, I'm projecting a total length of ~4500 words for about 23 minutes of talking and 10 minutes of run + intermissions (sponsor, credits etc.). Therefore, my estimate for the length of the video as of right now is about 33 minutes!

Another thing I've worked on is the production schedule. In order to finish this video in the next two full weeks, I need to get on it, and fast. I'll be working at an increased pace, but I believe that once I get into the groove, it'll go by quickly. The explanations are, by my standard, relatively surface level, so I believe I can knock out two sections a day fairly reliably, given that each section will have its fair share of simple editing like replaying a specific section in slow motion / frame advance to illustrate my point. Don't get me wrong, there will be emulator demonstrations, there will be After Effects, there will be cool stuff like that, but no full speedrun recreation on emulator, very few comparisons between different strategies, and overall just a small amount of the really time-consuming stuff.

I'm not doing this to make a low effort, low quality video - the intent is just to make something a bit more lightweight, for a bit more of a casual audience. I discussed this in my previous post: I like to think that I can sometimes go all in on a crazy technical subject, and that I can sometimes keep things simple and easy to understand, and you guys and my audience as a whole will still be here for it. I want to be informative and entertaining regardless of if I'm keeping things simple or doing a complete explanation of Stomp on the Thwomp in 0xA.

So, here's the production schedule!

As you can see, it is kinda packed.

Production livestream

Unless something happens, I will be doing a production livestream on Sunday. Note that I might possibly postpone it to Wednesday, but I'd like to aim for the weekend so that people who work a common schedule can tune in. If everything goes well, I'll be editing the character presentation and the start of 1-1!

That's it for now. I don't have any visuals to show because I haven't even started recording yet, let alone editing, but I am getting started on that tomorrow! See you, hopefully, on Sunday.

Comments

I’m so excited, smb2U is prolly the classic Mario speedrun I know the least about and it’ll be so cool to know more about it!
