This song was written for my friend Amanda; I believe I wrote a small EP of them to give to her for her birthday, possibly her 16th, but this was the only one I saved. The story in the first verse is true; for years she harbored guilt on account of some mild bullying she gave me in elementary school due to me dropping out of a “gifted student” program that I found excessively torturous. I did not retain her words at all, and was thoroughly confused when I received an anonymous apology note in middle school. By high school we were both in marching band, discussing the “Twilight” series while we waited for the third installment to drop, and developing a lifelong friendship. I’ll be seeing her and Degnan on Tuesday to catch up on “Severance”. No one has a beard yet.

The thought of a kid talking to their friend about how "old" they've grown, only to realize they're not that old at all, has this silly quality to it. This song reminds me of when I was younger and frequently talked like that, good vibes :)
